My ISP (Xfinity) just started enforcing a bandwidth cap of 300g/mo. That is total data (both upload & download count towards the cap). I noticed I can’t use the plex app unless my wifi network is connected to the Internet (I unplugged my modem & am running my home wifi without Internet connection because I am right @ the data limit) Does watching plex locally through the PlayStation app use a lot of Internet data? I am asking because I just started using the app this month & my data usage is up by approx 100gig from what it normally is.
it needs to be connected to the internet because the Playstation app needs to authenticate with plex.tv the actual stream from your local Plex media server to the local Playstation app should remain local and not use your data. the easiest way to check it is to change the local quality to something you can easily tell then playback something and see it it uses that quality rather than the remote quality
