Data use Plex on smarttv samsung

Hello everyone,

I have had a Western Digital NAS (WD cloud EX2) for a week now.
I use it to store movies and series. I have recently connected it to Plex, and everything works as it should. I really am a big fan of this system. But now I was wondering if watching my series (which are stored locally on my NAS) via my Samsung Smarttv uses my internet data?
This Smarttv is connected to the same network as my NAS (via wifi/no direct cable).
So as far as I know, it wouldn’t need any data to stream, like Netflix for example, as it is on the same network and therefore no contact needs to be made with the outside world.

Since I am a noob in computer lingo I wondered if anyone could give a simple answer to this. We have 750gb and I am now at 650gb consumption. So I would like to know if we can still watch series via Plex, or if we should wait until the month reset.

Plex will play local content locally. There’s no data being transferred through the internet.

Exceptions could be:

  1. if you’re streaming content from a friend’s server
  2. if you’re watching content from Plex‘ video on demand section (Movies and TV on Plex)
  3. if your devices are in different subnets (e.g. a WIFI access point that created its own separate network inside your home network)

You can use the dashboard on your server to verify the communication is actually local
