Date Wrong on DVR Recordings

I was hopeful that Plex Media Server - #504 by drzoidberg33 would have addressed and fixed this issue based on the fixes listed, but it appears it didn’t fix anything for this issue unless there’s some sequence to perform beyond refreshing the guide data to get it working. Anyone get this resolved with this latest version?

Things have gotten way worse now. I’m seeing most things with seeminly random dates in 2036 now. I can at least manually edit the date and have it stick (it was discarding a manually set date for a while there), but having to edit the date for everything that comes in isn’t something I want to do.

Are you running 1.27.0? This is the fix for the issue.

  • (Metadata) Episodes could get incorrect dates set on them with “Prefer local metadata” enabled (#13580)

@anon18523487 thanks for addressing this issue! However, it didn’t fix it for me. I’m currently running PMS 1.27.0.5849 on Windows 10. I still see wrong date in the recordings, 1 day into the future, so a recording for today 6/3/2022 will show 6/4/2022 for the date, just like my original report.

Are there further instructions to activate the fix and resolve it? Do we need to refresh guide data? Do we need to delete the dvr and readd or something? Is there a database operation or command line we need to execute? An option to enable/disable? We must be missing something.

Where is the “Prefer local metadata” setting? Are you referring to the Agents->Local Media Assets?

I don’t see anything called “Prefer local metadata” in the settings.

Yes. The fix does not address previously recorded videos only future recordings.

Edit your library, it’s a check box in the advanced tab.

Thank you! Found it and it is not selected (already.)

I’ll see if this continues, although we are in that season where most of my shows are not new :(.

On this issue of dates being wrong on DVR recordings, I’ve fond I’ve had to go into each folder I have recordings in, and choose Refresh Meta Data and that updates the correct Date. I haven’t updated to the 1.27.0 ver, on prev ver still, and have seem people complaining their database disappears on the latest update so I’m holding off on updating for now. Until then I have to manually do the Refresh Meta Data to fix issue…insane. Plex needs to focus on it being a Media Storage and DVR platform instead of all the shiny bells and whistles of streaming ad-ons. You don’t pay to get free streaming features when you pay for Plex Pass, you pay to get solid storage and DVR functions.

I completely disagree with your justification for Plex. Can you point to this in their T&C’s? If not, let’s just be real. This isn’t a priority for them and it will hurt them. Justify as you will. But the reality is that it should work. We pay for accurate data, including listings and representation of the recordings. We are subsidizing the company. Comments like yours just makes me want to go to another platform and bail on Plex. I’m sure they wouldn’t support that thought.

Besides, reading the Plex Pass benefits, they don’t align with your thoughts either. “Ultimate TV & DVR” … I would call accurate date and times to be a basic necessity, forget “Ultimate”. I would also argue that the silly features of their “Live TV” are ridiculous. You can’t even record. What kind of “Ultimate DVR” is that???

Agree, I don’t pay for Plex Pass for stupid Live TV that I can stream already outside of Plex, I don’t use any Streaming features they have added to make this an over bloated Media platform. I pay for Plex Pass to add my own media for easy library access, to use my tv tuners to get in actual Live TV to use on the DVR feature, and expect both to work correctly. Plex seems soo focused on all this streaming content to be mashed into this platform that it’s causing them to neglect the one thing people are buying a Plex Pass for. The streaming content needs to be a separate add-on that is chosen by the end user to ADD TO THEIR PLEX SERVERS, NOT DUMPED ON US! I understand they are probably adding all this streaming content for ad revenue but they should not in my opinion dump it on already paying customers unless they opt-in and want it added to their Plex server at all. I’ll step off my soap box now… :sunglasses:

Now we are definitely on the same page! I suspect an open source platform will capture us if they don’t switch. And I look forward to and encourage that. I have legit tuners as well and I’m extremely bothered that this doesn’t work. I’d pay a few bucks more a month to just make that work. Then again, I’d rather also pay less for the less than desirable “Live TV” that they offer. I have spent a total of probably 4 minutes on that since they day they released it.

Anyhow, we are aligned on the rest. Bottom line is that dates that don’t map out is likely an easy fix. I suspect they are mapping everything to UDT for the date (not time), but I haven’t spent enough time to validate.

I think they might have gotten it with latest beta release!

I’m seeing correct dates in the DVR recording listings!

Somewhere between PMS Version 1.27.0.5873 to Version 1.27.1.5916 there was a regression, my recordings went from having the correct dates to now having the incorrect date again.

@anon18523487 please check this out - what happened?

I’m going to need more details. Things look fine on my end.

Here’s an example from my local news recording from last night (7/4/2022) - it shows up as episode 07-01 released on 7/2/22 but with a file date of 7/4/22:

When I open up plex to watch, I have to check what file date matches what show to try and manually line this up - it’s really annoying!

Can you post the XML info for that file?

Nope it got purged, but here’s another similar example - strange though, this one is only 1 day off:

and the xml:
issue.zip (1.5 KB)

I wonder if it’s the attribute : originallyAvailableAt=“2022-07-04”

here’s one with 2 dates off from 11pm news:

and the xml:
issue2.zip (1.5 KB)

@anon18523487 was this useful information to help get to the bottom of this? I’m still experiencing this issue on a daily basis. Thanks!

Not seeing finding this topic, I posted in an existing topic the same results (see the second section of this post):
