Debugging setup failures

Will do, sorry about that.

So I deleted the WebClient.bundle like you said and it allowed me to connect, but I had to re-add my library locations and it's syncing with them.   Should I attach some logs right now?  Or wait and see if it messes up again and post them then?

Here are the logs, let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for your help. :)

I am afraid whilst the 6 Plex Media Server log files cover more than 6 hours (07:50 am to 14:04) they do not go back to the beginning. You could have saved copies of the log files as they were rotating but it is too late now - so cannot see anything about the library not being there at launch.

But it was not a complete re create because the logs show that it realized that the media files matched information already there so may be it behaved in same way as when one follows the steps for moving the media path.

eg

A question for you - what are the (1900-01-01) dates appearing next to episodes ? Is there a problem with date/timestamps or is that in the filenames?

It happened again.  I bought a new router because I thought the old one might have been contributing, (and it always gave me problems anyways)  The setup was working just like it was when you had me delete the folder.  Stayed up for a couple days, and then I just checked today because I noticed last night my Android plex app wasn't getting a response at my friends house.

Here are all the logs

The topic in this thread is about install errors when you run the download to setup Plex Media Server. Anything else ought to be raised as new topics please

Please do that and give a proper description of the problem - what works and what does not and any screenshots and time of failure and the log files covering that time

I have tried your suggestions and i think ive done it the right way. But no i dont get it to work

So what did you actually try and do and check?

It has been 3 weeks since you reported the problem on your attempt to install Plex Media Server 0.9.11.1

So did the file properties on the download file show a Digital Signatures Tab with entry for Plex Inc?

Did you run Windows Update and ensure you are up to date with all Service Packs and critical / security updates ?

Well to me this says you do not have an up to date system. There should be Service Pack 1 installed. Your log shows system as being:

Windows v6.1 (Build 7600: Service Pack 0)

So my advice is to make sure system is up to date and then get the later version of Plex Media Server 0.9.11.4 from plex.tv/downloads and try that

This is what I keep getting.  I have reset multiple times with no luck.  Any ideas?

I forgot to mention the TV is a Vizio P Series.  Thanks again!

For some reason the msi log file on 22nd November said it was Service Pack 0 - see your post

Might need to run (Start / Run)

sfc  /scannow

and on completion and restart, run Windows Update recursively until it says no updates or service packs available

and then install version 0.9.11.4 making sue the user account used for the install is an admin account and after checking that Digital Signatures tab exists for the download and with an entry for Plex Inc

Well now this time he recognize that i have a service pack :)

Most of these get resolved after following the steps on this support page: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/203079956-Error-A-problem-has-been-detected-with-a-core-component-of-Plex-Media-Server

I've registerd a Plex account, I've downloaded the installer, I've installed it and opened the server.  I uploaded files, but then the next time I access the server it doesnt open on any of my windows.  I've checked task manager and it says its running but I cant see anything.  When I open the mobile app it showed the files, but I cant upload any more files as it wont show on my PC.  And now the drive that the files were is has dies so I need to change the destination.  I uninstalled the server and reinstalled but it wont open again.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times with no effect.  I've run it in compatibility mode, and tried repairing it, but nothing.

Any ideas?

No need for compatibility mode. Best not to set this

After the install/re install, when launched is it still showing in Task Manager as running process for Plex Media Server.exe ?

On the PC it is running in, try different browsers to load these urls

localhost:32400/web

127.0.0.1:32400/web

and find out the ip address of the pc through ip config and then substitute that instead of 127.0.0.1 and try it

Also restart Plex Media Server, wait 10 minutes and then retry those url's and note down the times and results

and get the Plex Media Server.log

Upload with details of tests here.

Use More Reply Options to attach the log file

If you have changed the App Local Data Path and the path is not valid then Plex Media Server will exit on launching and not remain running

Hi,

I am running windows 8.1 and my currently installed version of plex media server is 0.9.11.4.

When I tried to run the in-app update to the latest version I get a message in the web admin page:

Something went wrong. Please install the update manually.

I follow the link to get the latest version (0.9.1107.803).

When I try run the install I get a popup first that says:

"The older version of Plex Media Server cannot be removed. Please contact your technical support group"

It then gives a second popup with the 0x80070643 error message and I have attached the log file.

I have tried the manual process mentioned earlier in this topic post regarding WIX and I still get the same errors.

I have checked the firewall issue that is also mentioned in this post and I still have no success.

Well first I would forget about check for updates and do everything myself manually as that gives better control - especially when issues do arise for so many people when installing/upgrading

Things to check:

1. Download File C:\Users\Lionel\Downloads\Programs\Plex-Media-Server-0.9.1107.803-87d0708-en-US.exe is complete

So check File Properties and see that there is a Digital Signatures tab with entry for Plex Inc

2. Username Lionel is an admin user and within the Administrators group of user accounts

3. That Plex Media Server was shutdown and no Plex processes showing in Task Manager Process View when the new install of 0.9.11.7 is run

4. As this is windows 8 / 8.1, ensure the Windows Firewall is active and enabled when the install/upgrade is run

5. Ensure there is no pending Restart action when the install / upgrade is run

If problem persists, Uninstall current version, reboot and then install the new version

If problems continue, you could get the more detailed log file as well

The log files are

C:\Users\Lionel\AppData\Local\Temp\Plex Media Server_yyyymmddhhmmss.log'

and the more detailed log file:

C:\Users\Lionel\AppData\Local\Temp\Plex Media Server_yyyymmddhhmmss_0_pms.log'

Thank you for the response.

The download is a complete file with the digital signature in place.

I tried killing all running plex tasks as well and that seemed to get the install going a bit further but I still get the popup that the old version cannot be uninstalled. I have attached the log and detailed log for this.

If I try uninstall the current version manually I also get an error and I have attached those logs as well (the ones that end in 1709).

Thank you.

Hello,

I didn't get a set up failure, but that my PC would need to be rebooted because certain files were open. I did this, and all seemed fine once I restarted my PC-I didn't get any error messages, however when I try to open Plex Media Server, nothing happens. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. This time I didn't get any messages that files were open and it installed. But the same thing happens, I click to open the program and nothing happens. If I manually refresh my library on the web, I don't have an issue and can watch from my Roku. However, when I go to "My Media Servers" online it says that I don't have a server set up and to open the program and go back and refresh. Since I can't open the program I can't refresh...This is an issue since I want to share with my friends and it shows that I don't have a server.

What should I do???

Thanks!

~Vanessa

When you launch the Media Server, is there a tray icon? If you navigate to http://localhost:32400/web/ you should be able to manage your server.

This exact problem is happening to me. Only when I navigate to http://www.localhost.com:32400/web/ I get a 'Server Not Found' error. If I try to go to the website and log in there I'm in an endless loop where it tells me I haven't downloaded it yet. Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
