Debugging setup failures

That is good - so it must have the multiple instances / versions of python and OpenSSL

Yes, I had other Python based server/services running and did not know of a potential for Python conflicts.  For the record, I had installed Python 2.7.9 for Windows, pyopenssl, amongst other python based dependencies.  I've moved to all windows installed based programs, autologin, start when machine starts via program.  One program installs a service, which I had to change ownership to the user account from system to get smb/UNC shares to be recognized.  Thanks again.

Yes it is better to use the user account for the service rather than SYSTEM.

Quite a number of us use the service wrapper provided by cjmurph here; PMS As a Service

The normal thing to do with the error

A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server

is to follow the advice given on the support page with the same title

A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server

I can see that you are still in initial setup. Did you get a browser open up to allow you to create your Library sections and add paths for the media folders?

Things to note from the log:
The Plex Media Server appears to go to sleep. There may be issues allowing to do that and servers are normally expected to run all the time - but you can research the area by reading some of the manu forum topics about sleep / hibernation / wake on LAN / WOL

The above also shows internet was down / network interface down and that might have something to do with it. There was failure to connect to google analytics.

Thanks a lot. It works now…

Yes, It was Not running so far.

But now it works. Only thing I have done was pressing the

Back Button in the Browser.

Best regards Bernd

Just installed the program and I keep getting "A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server." whenever I try to start it. Any help would be very appreciated, thanks

The standard answer for such errors is the one on this support page

Error - A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server

The error related to communication with the system/framework

Mar 18, 2015 22:53:09:558 [5732] DEBUG - [com.plexapp.system] Sending command: GET /:/prefixes

More info would be in the log files in the PMS Plugin Logs folder supplementing what is in the Plex Media Server.log

But -  Is your internet down?  Do you have any proxy software ? Security software that would be blocking Plex Media Server?

Apparently it was my IP blocker, turned it off and it's fine. Thank you for your help!

Apparently it was my IP blocker, turned it off and it's fine. Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the feedback Watch out that your IP Blocker does not turn out to be like the third party software products that crashes mswsock.dll and Plex Media Server.exe (see long list in my signature)

I'm brand new to Plex, just downloaded it last night on my Windows 8.1 desktop.  Install seemed to go perfectly.  The Media Server seems to be running.

But when I right click to select Media Manager, which is where I assume I can go to set my prferences and point to my video directory, I get a 404 error on both http://www.server.com:32400/web/index.htmland http://localhost:32400/web/index.html.  I use ZoneAlarm as a firewall and I've even turned that off.  Same error.

Trying to use Plex with my Samsung Smart TV.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I've seen a lot, that's way over my head, but nothing that starts with this error.

There have been issues in the past with ZoneAlarm in that disabling it was not sufficient. It may have blocked the installation of the bundles either within C:\Program Files (x86) area or within

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins

Check that this folder does exist and there is an index.html in it

C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Plug-ins\WebClient.bundle\Contents\Resources

This is the master copy of the bundles and when you launch Plex Media Server, files get copied to

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins

and for the Web Client bundle it would be to

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\WebClient.bundle

You can try re-install after uninstalling ZoneAlarm.

For Windows 8 install sometimes goes wrong if windows firewall is disabled - but you seem not to have had that install issue.

Sometimes resetting the WebClient.bundle fixes the problem:

Shutdown Plex Media Server

Wait for all plex processes to terminate

Delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\WebClient.bundle

Restart Plex Media Server

Wait 5 minutes

Then launch browser and try

localhost:32400/web

Thank you  Going through your instructions line by line,

There have been issues in the past with ZoneAlarm in that disabling it was not sufficient. It may have blocked the installation of the bundles either within C:\Program Files (x86) area or within

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins

19 directories listed

Check that this folder does exist and there is an index.html in it

C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Plug-ins\WebClient.bundle\Contents\Resources

Exists, 7 subdirs and has an index.html file

This is the master copy of the bundles and when you launch Plex Media Server, files get copied to

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins

Yes

and for the Web Client bundle it would be to

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\WebClient.bundle

this is all that's in my Web Client bundle.  Guessing it should match the other two directories??

So guessing I uninstall Plex and then uninstall ZoneAlarm, reboot, reinstall Plex and then I can reinstall ZoneAlarm??  Is that what you recommend?

Thanks

Carolyn

go for it - leave zonealarm out until you launch plex media server after the install

if there are still issues we need to look at resetting a few bundles

When I run Plex-Media-Server-0.9.1116.958-80f1748-en-US.exe it starts the process but stays at about 200 bytes in memory and never grows and the program never properly starts (or ends). I looked at the troubleshooting tips in the first post, but they don't seem to help, like the /log option doesn't create a log when run on the command line, it just starts and exits.

I recently upgraded to a new motherboard and had to do a full reinstall of Windows, before that I had a working install of PMS.

can you check the download as being complete - right click on the download file Plex-Media-Server-0.9.1116.958-80f1748-en-US.exe

Select Properties

See if there is a Digital Signatures tab and within it an entry for Plex inc

The absence of either indicative of incomplete download file

Okay, uninstalled Plex, uninstalled ZoneAlarm, rebooted, reinstalled Plex.  Same results as before in the WebClient bundle subdir.

The screenshot you took last time shows some McAfee stuff. Do you have that installed as well?

If you have, remove it and try to launch Media Manager

If you do not have it, then would like to capture the Plex Media Server log for first launch after install. So Uninstall Plex Media Server

Re-install and launch Plex Media Server

When you get the 404 error, get the server log

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs\Plex Media Server.log

and upload here using 'More Reply Options' and Attach File

Sorry. I should've said upffront, I sidid check for the certificate and installed it, but that didn't change anything.

So it shows in Task Manager as a process for Plex Media Server.exe ?

Does a Plex system tray icon appear at the bottom right side of the screen?

What happens when you open a browser and go to url

localhost:32400/web

Could you look for the log files

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs\Plex Media Server.log

and the install log file:

and upload both using 'More Reply Options' and Attach Files
