what do I have to do to get help around here??? do I seriously have to pour through all these threads? I don’t have time, I’ve started new threads but haven’t got any answers relevant to my problem, I’ve got plex servers running on 2 devices fine, one on a MacBook another on a windows 10 pc, but when I install it on my windows 7 machine it doesn’t detect my server and it doesn’t show up in devices, I’m not super advanced with computers so it has taken me days over weeks to even work out whats happening, regardless now that I do and have rephrased new threads I can’t seem to get any help??? surely I’m not asking to much from a service I pay for to get SOME support, I mean apple was prepared to help me more than plex were, unfortunately plex setup perfectly on my MacBook so I’m back at a deadend. I read on the forums from people with similar but not exact issues, I can’t find any threads with the same problem, maybe I’m not phrasing it correctly but it shouldn’t be so hard to find it, so anyway on these similar threads I read firewalls or ie settings can interfere, so I turned off firewall I changed google to default browser still nothing, I don’t know what I gotta do to get some help

I’ve been having an issue trying to get my Plex server to work, this issue started a month ago, I’ve been unsuccessful in fixing the issue with port forwarding. I am connected directly to the Cable Router.
Plex Media Server version 1.7.5.4035 Win 10 x64
I tried uploading the Server logs but I keep getting a failed message each time.

please raise a new topic - this topic is about msi issues during install
please also include screenshots as well as server logs
Hello,
I was upgrading my Plex install to the latest version today using the automated update process on the settings tab. However, in the middle of the uninstall, my house lost power due to a storm
After that I was unable to install the new version, or get the previous version to completely uninstall. I ran the Microsoft Fix It tool, which did appear to complete the uninstall process (it no longer appears in Programs and Features, or in the Programs list that Fix It generations) however I am getting the same MSI error when running the install. I also ran a DISM repair. (was following the suggestions here https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/202967086-Windows-Errors-trying-to-upgrade-install-or-uninstall-Plex-Media-Server)
I’ve attached the log file from the errored install here. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Maybe it’s time to get a UPS unit, heh…
edit: nvm, I searched my registry for all copies of “Stopping Plex” which is the step the install would error, and deleted them. Then the installation proceeded normally. Now to fix the corrupt DB…

Thanks for the updated feedback
It detected references to two packages
[2A50:1BC8][2017-08-28T19:07:17]i103: Detected related package: {64DC32A4-FE15-4054-AC6C-421DE509BF51}, scope: PerMachine, version: 1.7.4035.0, language: 0 operation: MajorUpgrade
[2A50:1BC8][2017-08-28T19:07:17]i103: Detected related package: {763A44F9-11ED-4C90-B79F-01077108135B}, scope: PerMachine, version: 1.7.4035.0, language: 0 operation: MajorUpgrade
and then failed because the package: {64DC32A4-FE15-4054-AC6C-421DE509BF51} was not found in the C:\ProgramDataPackage Cache` area
In such cases it would normally be sufficient to run the Microsoft Fix It Install/Uninstall Troubleshooter to go through the uninstall and then allow it to be uninstalled so that the update can be applied
There have been cases when users needed to run Revo Uninstaller
I installed the server through the plex website and when done I hit launch and it took me to the web app to log in. I logged in and it could not find a server. When I go to the devices tab it does not show a server just the web app. When I try to open the newly downloaded server app on my computer it opens up to a screen that says modify install It has 3 buttons to choose: close, uninstall, and repair. I tried the repair and it does it’s thing and restarts the computer but it doesn’t repair anything. The same thing happens over and over. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but the same thing continues to happen. My system is running windows 10. I definitely can’t get a plex pass if I can’t have a working server.

Look for the logs and take a copy and zip and attach
Possible cause is that you had run the server on that machine some time before using a different plex.tv account and it would not show if you are now trying with different user account
Look for logs in C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs - zip copy and attach
and get screenshot to show what plex.tv you are signed into (top right corner drop down)
Not quite sure what I am doing so I hope this is what you were asking for and I do believe years ago there was plex on this computer and it has been uninstalled and reinstalled.

These logs were written January 2016
Could you establish if there is a Plex Media Server.exe process running and showing in Windows Task Manager. ALso if there is a Plex icon in the system tray
If it is not showing, then launch it through the Start Programs menu and see if the system tray plex icon shows up and if the logs in C:\Users\Alan\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs get written to
If it is showing in Windows Task Manager and there is a plex icon then please right click on the icon and select Open Plug-ins Folder - this will show the directory structure it would be writing logs to - so go up to the parent folder and then select the Logs folder
I have screen shots and there is no system tray icon and in task manager when I right click there is not an option to open plug ins.

The task manager showed a Plex Media Server.exe process - was that the setup program that you had screenshots for showing Repair / Uninstall etc ?
Lets try to see what Windows Task Manager Details tab shows after you run this exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe
and then see if a Plex system tray icon appears
@sa2000
here is the details tab on task manager
@sa2000
I pasted that in run and nothing happened
@sa2000
task manager details after pasting C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe in run.

This is showing multiple processes running. The Details tab left column is not fully expanded
Were you running a setup / install at the time?
Do you install / update manually or through the web interface ?
This screenshot shows a Plex Media Server.exe process as well as two other processes - probably an update / install set of processes - did you have a repair active ?

If Plex Media Server.exe was already running then it probably would just exit
Could you check the registry using RegEdit
Look at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
See if there is LocalAppDataPath field defined
And if there is then see what path is there
Then look at that path and get the logs from the Plex Media Server\Logs below that path
@sa2000
I did have the repair/uninstaller open in the screen shots previously because everytime I open Plex that is what automatically opens I followed your instructions and in the local appdatapath it gives me an IP address \\192.168.0.1
wow
why ? how ?
Please kill all Plex Media Server processes in task manager
and delete that registry key LocalAppDataPath) and then launch
C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe`
See this support article which gives an example
The LocalAppDataPath is a local drive / folder path on the server.
If absent the default is used which will be C:\Users\Alan\AppData\Local

To add my earlier feedback - local app data must never be on another machine / network share. So if you had that in mind please stop. It should be a local path if not default
@sa2000
I am up and running! Thank you so much for your time helping me. I really appreciate it!
