So i recently moved with my music (120.000 Tracks) over to Plex and using PlexAmp as Player. Everything is working just excellent! Great Job done @Devs. But i was wondering, since iam kinda lazy… not every track/album got an art embbed within the Tag, would it be possible to implement an feature to upload a default art for every album/track that has non embedded? Since iam not using the folder/file structure as mentioned by plex for my mp3’s i set my agent to local/personal media file for tagging- which works just fine. I only would like too see a default picture for missing artwork when playing a track instead of a blank black box.
Thanks for the reply @nibbles I’ll give it a try! Nah there are certain Folder (2 or 3 ) wich contain like 2300 Titles. My “Younger” Me was so genius, when starting collecting mp3’s (mostly Top100 Charts in the first couple years) to have all the Tracks sorted by Artists thru folders from A-Z instead of leaving them in the orignal Top100 Folder an give all of them the same Cover… This is like for 30k tracks. I feel like i have to manually edit the Tgas and get them a cover before adding them to Plex
Update: Welp it doesnt seem to work… Iam redoing my Media now… and also redoing the File Folder Structure how Plex wants them to be (Aritst/Album/Title)
So you added cover.jpg to a directory with a group of tracks,
then you did a Scan Library Files,
then on your music Library you chose the option to Refresh Metadata,
and it didn’t work?
Exactly. Oh well as i was looking thru the Forums ive seen quiet a few post about Users having big issues with library management for Music in Plex. I would agree that they should recode their eco system… not even the “search” function is working properly with music…
Its kinda sad to see that they force people to redo their whole File/Folder System just because they wont update their data handling… I havent seen a single Program yet that behaves like this (besides Plex)
I dont argue about Movies and Series - i’m fine with that using plexes Folder/File System. But with Mp3 Collections >100.000 Tracks which alot of people can easily reach, to have them re-tag and re-sort their tracks according to Plex Guidlines to get read in properly is just horrible.
It might be a hard and long step to redo the whole ecosystem,… but in Times where we got AI to Help… there should be no excuse to fix Bugs and listen to the Community who pays for their license and supporting them with trying to show “What could be done better”.
Don’t get me wrong iam not trying to point the finger at Plex Devs saying they have done a bad job.
But as looking thru the Forum this Problem exists now a couple of years, and has cost them a bunch of Users at least…
Interesting I’ll have to experiment. Maybe it was called front.jpg?
I think MP3Tag is your friend here. It should be able to mash through all of your collection with little difficulty as long as you have a reasonably consistent naming convention you used over the years and embed the correct cover for each album onto your tracks.
Alternatively, I don’t think it would be too hard to have ffprobe or something sort out the tracks without embedded cover art. If you had that group, you can ask MP3tag to add the default art it finds on the net to each track.
Or you could also embed a default photo into every track and avoid mp3tag for now if you have a lot of naming variety.
auds=(*.mp3)
for f in "${auds[@]}"; do
echo "$f"
done
then below the echo you can add an ffmpeg (or some other util) command
to write the default art
Thanks for the Time you invested in this… the purpose of my post was to give the user an easy (and also easy to code that) way so they can implement a custom or default picture for ‘‘no cover files’’. Anyhow as i said iam re-doing all my music now… There is a much bigger problem on how plex handles data…
