I have a specific library for anime. is there a way to designate that library to always choose Japanese language if available?
I think if you hover your mouse over the library in the left pane of Plexweb, then click âthe dotsâ, select âEditâ, in the first window youâll be able to set the default language.
If that actually does what you want is a complete mystery to me, but you can let us know what happened.

This unfortunately not possible.

No, this only defines the language in which the metadata are fetched (if available).

I knew there was a catch.
A Shortcoming in descriptive text at the point of selection - if you ask me - and you didnât - but that text would have cleared up some of the mystery almost immediately - in my case.
So a workaround i found is that i set my preferred audio language to Japanese instead of English, this should stop it from auto selecting English when i have dual language video. the problem is that i only wanted this to apply to the one folder and not universal settings.
Doesnât sound like a very good work-around, but if you like it, I love it and I know Otto is as giddy as a School Girl over it.
BTW, what would happen if you marked that Japanese track as the default?
Otto?
Any thoughts on that?
Currently, there is no real solution than to go through every episode and manually select your desired audio and subtitle language. (The quickest is to use the web app.)
This selection is stored for your user account and is also valid for all other Plex clients connected with your personal Plex account on this server.
All other users on your server must define their own preferences and select their own exceptions manually.

no no i hate this workaround but iâll take what i can get. if someone can find another solution i will prefer that

Plex unfortunately doesnât care about the âdefaultâ tag.
If you disabled the automatic track selection, itâd simply use the first audio track.
Which ever that is. But thatâd mean youâd have to curate all your files carefully and remux them if need be.
That is even more effort.
can you think of any other effects setting preferred audio language to Japanese might have? i just changed it and didnât have time to test.
If you have a movie without japanese audio (i.e. all your ânormalâ movies), Plex will fall back to the first available audio track. If that happens to be a russian audioâŠ
ok. in my case those should be in a minority so i should be fine.
