Could a feature be added to allow a player to set a default play version to play when multiple versions of a video is available? So if you had the 720, 1080 and 2160 version of the same movie and you could set the player to always prefer 720. Right now it seems to always pick the highest resolution if multiples exist. It would be nice to have this at the player level so that individual devices could be set differently if you have a 4K TV in one room, but only a HD TV in another.
This does exist kinda on a player level. Your player has a setting for play quality setting. If your files are the appropriate direct-play quality it should work no problem. If it’s transcoding then it may default to the “best quality” to start with since it has to transcode it anyway.
It would be nice to have a tag to have a default, like the .forced.ENG tag on subtitles. Ideal for when you have something that has a burnt-in subtitles file with foreign audio & an English language version without. Or ones that have a different length version for a different language
Would be good to say be able to prefer say 1080 HDR over 4k if that’s what you prefer as well. Or prefer non-HDR. At a per-device level.
A lot of my content is 4k and i’m getting into the habit now of adding smaller files maybe 1080p or 720p for my remote users. My ISP upload speed isn’t great and transcoding 4k files to my users isn’t ideal especially when I have a x256 at 1080p ready to go. Problem is my users often forget to check to see if I have different versions of a certain movie or episode. I’d love it if I could default everyone to the smaller file vs the bigger one.
Thanks!
