Delete poster

+1 I would love the ability to delete artwork I don’t need. Or at the very least, be able to change the default (order) of display. Example: every time I refresh the metadata for The Three Stooges, all the season posters change to the ‘colorized’ versions; I’m recording the original B&W, so I’m forced to change all 25 season posters back to the black and white versions. If deleting unused artwork is too heavy a lift, at least let us choose the default artwork that gets displayed. BTW I’m a recent convert from Kodi and am loving Plex so far; very nice effort from the team.

Plus it takes up extra space on the plex metadata, which has more problems with number of small files than with total size issues

I think that you should be able to delete both user added and non user added posters. The support for multiple versions of movies is HORRIBLE! So, I have had to go through and split apart 4k and 1080 movies and then slap movie posters on accordingly. (A VERY time consuming process.) Then, I changed my password yesterday for the first time in years (and clicked the log-out existing devices button, which I subsequently found was a ‘dumb’ thing to do… how is that obvious!?!). As a result, I have had to rebuild my server on the NVIDIA Shield and have to split apart movies and then upload posters for each of them (hundreds of movies, many x 2). Then, the very first movie that I started with had 15(!!!) posters, many in different languages (despite clicking the preferred language button) and I will use zero of them… only the two that I upload.
I have seen all kinds of excuses about why multiple versions cannot be reasonably managed. But, this should be very easy to accomplish - allow me to delete posters / background and to not refresh the metadata for a given item. (Why do I care if the Rotten Tomatoes score has changed? Do you really think that most people can be bothered checking for new artwork and changing it?) - I voted!

Adding my vote for a simple way to delete the poster. In my case, I don’t care for background posters for Various Artists albums. (Especially not the ones supplied by default.) Replacing it with a black image works but a button to get rid of it altogether would be nicer.

Or simply supply a black background image to select instead.

Deletion should be a default feature. No reason to punish users for accidentally uploading an mistaken image or anything of the sort.

I believe we should be able to delete the images selectively as well as automatically. Such as this thread suggested…

I have uploaded the wrong image to the wrong file (move/music) only to go eh leave it as finding it manually is to much a PITA to do. If there was an admin setting which can be executed then any unused images data could be purged to help clean up DB Bloat on hard drives etc. When you have a few 1,000 movies and a few 1,000 Songs those 800x800 or lager images will start to eat up extra space. Not to mention helping the members who suffer from OCD.

yes!!! deleting should be possible. for example, if you find a poster before tvDB gets one, and then you want to delete it so it will revert back to the Plex scraper grabbing the most recent poster.

With the emergence of theposterdb.com, I accidentally upload the wrong poster at times. Having the ability to clean it up with a dialog box would be useful. If there is a way I can send a PR for this and contribute, please point me to the contributor’s guide and I’d be happy to help!

Adding my vote for unwanted poster deletion.

In my case, I added the wrong poster for War of the Worlds. Since there are so many productions of this that all share the same name, apparently Plex can’t find the right one on its own. So I searched for images and found one for the 2019 BBC production and uploaded that one, but I really wanted the 2020 Canal+ production. So I added the right one and now want to delete the BBC one so it doesn’t confuse me later.

I would not even mind the downloading of a bunch of posters for a movie or show if I COULD delete the ones I don’t use.

Because it bothers me when I make a mistake and always try to remedy it.

I’d like to have this feature too !
This is too bad that in 2021 there is no way to remove easily a poster…

I’ve already voted five times so I can’t vote on this, but I’d also like to see this “feature”. I’ve uploaded (bad) artwork to my server before, only to go back to Photoshop and replace it afterwards. Now my bad artwork is just sitting there, taunting me and wasting my HDD space!

Edit: We all know Plex and they are not going to fix this anytime soon, so in the meantime you can run this to remove all of your custom posters (should be fine if you have a poster.jpg in your media folder and refresh the metadata afterwards):

sudo find "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Metadata/Movies/" -path "*/posters/*" -not -path "*agent*" -delete

Please, Plex, add this! It’s frankly kind of ridiculous that you can’t delete something you’ve added. I’ve been computing for decades and have never encountered this restriction in any program I’ve used. If I create something, I should have an inalienable right to delete it! Power to the People!

This is honestly the most ridiculous lack of “feature” I have ever come across! Guys, please email plex the link to this page so they can actually realise how pathetic this is!

Plz add this feature… Why is a simple feature not added after 4 years . Topic was made in 2016

All those unwanted posters is eating up space

It’s hard to believe that we need to ask for this feature and it’s not a default being soooo obviously needed. So, nobody is allowed to make a mistake? if we added the wrong image then we f…off, we are not allow to correct the error?

Pretty reasonable and essential suggestion those who customize Plex. +1

I needed to delete a poster and background from wrongly matched tv series and I just found this plex dance steps to do this:

Adding my voice to the No.1 most logical request on this forum.

Please add the ability to Manually DELETE Poster and Background art.

When the Plex scanner wrongly identifies a Movie or TV show, I get all this crap artwork that has nothing to do with actual Movie/Show.
Unmatching does not remove all the wrong art work.
By my calculations, more than 50% of the art work on my Drive has nothing to do with my Library and is taking up many GB’s of data.
I feel like an old cat lady who is hoarding rubbish in every room of the house!
