I was having issues with my previous install of Plex Media server showing “Plex server settings are unavailable.” I deleted the Plex app (and wiped all support files), dropped in a fresh download of Plex Media Server, ran it, and now am stuck at Server setup. It won’t let me fill in the name of the new server. If I click the continue button it just spins.
One more comment… I ran the commands as listed in the article about being locked out from the server. This is the response…
defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver PlexOnlineUsername

@BigWheel The short answer is no PMS does not have full disk access.
File and Folder access does not exist on 10.14.6. Only full disk.
On a 2018 Mac Mini with 10.14.6, I took an upgraded PMS at 1.29.1.6316 with Settings unavailable and granted it full disk access. There was no change in how it acted after restart.
There is also no change in how a 1.29.1.6316 fresh install behaves when full disk access is granted before the install. It still has this bug of getting stuck at the naming step.
@awchilds work closely with BigWheel, but from a let’s just get it working standpoint, you should tell us whether you want to do a clean install and start over, or whether you want to save what you had before.
It did not have access when I checked. I enabled full disk access:
However, when I try to set up the new server I get the “how Plex works screen.” Then the “Plex Pass” screen and finally the fill in the server name screen. I still can’t fill in a name on the line and if I click anywhere else the button just spins.
One other observation… If I click “Preferences…” from the Plex icon it takes me to the config screen where I can see my old Server name (and a copy that appeared after all my tinkering today.)
I went through the full Plex uninstall from the help files. It seems that there is still a ghost of my old install(s) floating around somewhere!
@nibbles You called my setup perfectly! I am on a Mid 2014 Macbook Pro running 10.14.5. I have been running PMS on this machine successfully for years. I went back through the steps that you describe in your two write-ups and that is exactly what I did and exactly what happens.
I am totally fine with a clean install with a fresh start.
Thanks both of you for your quick responses and offer of support!
@nibbles@BigWheel Quick update! I just downloaded PMS 1.28.0.5999 and did a fresh install that worked. However, my old PMS is still showing. Not a huge issue… I’m just glad I can watch again.
When you say your old Server is still present? Do you mean there is a tile for it in Authorised Devices. If so just delete that tile and restart your Plex Server app.
