Deleting Library - Didn't add library properly

I have a Nvidia Shield Pro. Ethernet connection. MYBOOKLIVE NAS. Kodi style media files.

I wanted to try Plex on my Shield. The client and server both on the same android device was a big selling point.

I add my NAS with the shield. Then I added the library by going to the web page. The settings > Manage > Libraries > Add Libraries > TV Shows > Add Folder > Browse > NAME_OF_FOLDER. Then added the folder. The structure beneath is typical Kodi structure - A folder with an NFO file and a sub folder for each season.

I got a mismash of stuff. TV shows are not identified or sorted properly.

  1. I think I want to start over. Delete on website and it will delete the new “TV SERIES” folder from my Library?

  2. I want to add the folder again. Do I have to keep the website open? Any idea what I should do differently?

Thanks in advance.

Plex is very picky with TV shows. You must follow the recommended file naming and organization.

/TV Shows
  /Show Name
    /Season 01
      Show Name - s01e01 - optional episode name.ext
      Show Name - s01e02.ext

See Naming and Organizing TV Shows

Also, some shows have different show names, episode names, or episode order based on air dates, DVD/Blu-ray packaging, etc. Plex matches against thetvdb.com. Use their episode names & order. Example: Spooks from BBC aired in US as MI5. Plex wants to see the show as Spooks, since that is the name in TheTVdb.

Edit / Addition: You’ll also need to Plex Dance the files if you change the names & structure.

Just delete the library section.
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289286-deleting-libraries/

When you recreate it, it is absolutely important that you point the library not to each tv show individually.
Merely add the “parent” folder which cointains all your tv shows.
(The /TV Shows folder in @FordGuy61 's example above )

Hi FordGuy61,

That’s pretty much how Kodi does it as well except Kodi does not care what you name the season folder. Most of mine say “Season 01” but some incorporate the TV show name, “True Blood Season 1”. Click the Plex Dance link and thanks for that . Comments were not encouraging on that link.

Hi OttoKerner,

Thanks for the reply. Will do.

Quick question. When I delete the library from my PC do I have to have the Plex Server running on the Shield?

I’m not sure I understand.
Use a web browser to open the web app and access your server – wherever it is actually installed.

OK - thanks. I access the web and sign into my account from my office computer. My server is on the Shield in another room. What you are telling me is that when I sign in to my account from my office I am accessing the plex server on my Shield TV in real time. I did not understand that.

That is why I was asking if I need the Shield powered up when I delete the library. Right now I can go to manage library on my office PC. But I look in the Den and the light on my Shield is off indicating it is in sleep mode.

I actually don’t know how the Shield behaves in sleep mode. I don’t have one.
If you can access it with your web browser now, I’m assuming it is OK to do it.

There is a longgggg thread on close to the question. From what I get out of it is that one should still have access even in sleep mode. And one can tell that if libraries are available. Just because it sleeps doesn’t mean one can’t access it.

Thanks for the help,.
