How do you edit library items

Hi. brand new to this but already scratching my head. I have some tv episodes that I didn’t include when i set up the library and I cannot find a way to add them to the existing folder for the actual show. Nor can I see a way to delete stuff that I may not want in the future. Any help would be appreciated…

Additions:
Windows Explorer/Drag and Drop new files into the folder that is your library folder(s).
Deletions:
Windows Explorer/highlight file, press the delete button on your keyboard (or move the file out of the library).

If you do not have Plex set to automatically update the library when changes are detected - Update Libraries:

There are any number of methods to use wherein files can be added automatically to your Plex directory structures, but for now… stick to the basics.

As a beginner, you should read up on how things work in Plex:

Especially how files are expected to be named, particularly with tv shows.
Almost all issues with tv shows where episodes don’t show up or shows are getting torn apart into several shows are due to improper naming.

The library for plex is quirky at the best of times. There are correct ways to name things and so on, but you will undoubtedly run into the odd problem here and there.

Before I used plex, I was using Serviio, which is much simpler, but less featured and a tad clunky. I had my library organised into stuff that I watched (so a folder called STEVIE, for me) and stuff that my partner watched. Serviio was fine with this and it showed up like that on my Xbox too. It started having problems (not working and so on).

When I installed plex, it picked up my media. However it thought that STEVIE was a TV series called “Stevie TV” (something I have never heard of or seen) and that each TV show inside my STEVIE folder was a season of Stevie TV. I scratched my head for a while trying to get to the bottom of it and realized the problem.

Generally, the best library scheme for TV shows/seasons/etc is

TV Show Name Folder/
--------------/TV Show Name Season 01/
------------------------------/TV Show Name S01E01.mp4
------------------------------/TV Show Name S01E02.mp4
Or for two part episodes that have been combined into two
------------------------------/TV Show Name S01E01-S01E02.mp4

I find that it doesnt really matter that much when it comes to films. I just have one “FILMS” folder and throw them inside that. It picks them up and gets any relevant data.

No. The best scheme is the recommended one, as shown in the help pages.
Yours above contains 3 deviations. Can you spot them?

Yes. However, what I wrote does work.

TV Show Name Folder/
--------------/TV Show Name Season 01/
------------------------------/TV Show Name S01E01.mp4

at least twice last week a show with the above structure did NOT work and needed to be corrected.
Using file naming and structuring not in compliance with Plex guidelines can and often does produce unreliable results.
