[Design bug] Personal media - Library type, scanner, and agent

Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492

I love having my media library setup, which works great for commercial movies. There is, however, an issue with personal media that has multiple bug reports here and needs to be addressed. Plex Media Server is the obvious choice for organizing and viewing home videos or random nom-commercial recordings.

The issue is the relationship between library type, scanner, and agent. When adding a new library I am conveying the type of items I expect to have there. It’s for organization only, and should not have any direct relationship to the scanner and agent. That’s why the scanner and agent list has the same set of options for “Movies” or “Other Videos”.

If I select the “Plex Video Files Scanner” on a “Movies” library, it changes the library type to “Other Videos”. Clearly no setting should change another setting, especially without notice or potential solutions.

Please don’t make the assumption that “Other Videos” means there are no posters or that a landscape orientation must be used. If “Movies” is not the right way to think about this, then there needs to be some way to specify how I want the posters to look. Or perhaps they should even be mixed; portrait if a portrait poster is provided and landscape if a landscape poster is provided or a video thumbnail is used.

As it stands now it’s confusing and broken.
