Ok, so if I add a new library and select Movies as the type and then select scanner as Plex Video Scanner and agent to Personal Media, the Library gets scanned (sort of), but if I go back and edit the library it now shows as Home Videos, it’s no longer a Movie type of library
Is this expected? it did not, as i recall do this prior to the latest update (I am running 1.2.2)
You’re creating a movie library but twisting it into regular / home video library and wondering why it’s not being scanned completely / properly and not showing as a Movie Library?
What I was trying to do was to create a second Movies type of Library that would use the embedded metadata that I have added to the files rather than using online sources.
So the new Library would still contain Movies
But I wanted to leave the existing Movies Library as it is, so I did not want to change the order of the agents in server settings in case it messes up the existing Movies Library, as far as I know, if I change the order there, then it will apply to all the Movie Libraries.
So should I be using a different combination of Scanner and agent for the Library ?
If the files are of type MP4 and the Local Media Assets agent enabled, Plex would see this and use the metadata from those MP4 files. If the files are of type MKV, Plex will ignore any metadata in them. You still want the movie scanner to ensure proper scanning and handling.
You are correct, changing agent order does apply to new items you add but not anything existing.
Heuristically, I find having the LMA agent as the 3rd agent in the list works best for me… Having it enabled, regardless of position, allows everything in the file as well as additional items (grouped with the files themselves) to be grabbed. I personally use the default scanners for each library type.
If you still want to use custom poster.jpg or local extras with these movies, I recommend you switch back to the ’ Plex Movie Scanner’ and switch only the Agent to ‘Personal Media’.
A different approach is this:
There are 2 movie agents in Plex.
You could use ‘Plex Movie’ for your regular Movie library.
The second movie library you could switch to ‘TheMovieDatabase’.
Then you can re-order the agents under Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase to have Local Media Assets at the top. This then would only affect movies ‘matched’ to TheMovieDatabase, i.e. movies in your second library.
I have just tried the first suggestion and that ended up with some incorrect matches, I had the agents like this:
Then tried using the Plex Movie Scanner with the agent set to Personal Media that changed the Library into a Home Videos Library. It seems this is what triggers the change of Library type
So onto the Final option, set Local Media Assets to the top of TheMovieDatabase Agent and then set the Second Movie Library to use TheMovieDatabase.
