Desktop client bug

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935
Player Version#: 1.13.0.1275-bbd8d37b
Not a server issue so at this time no logs

If plex desktop player has an active window with paused content and the screensaver kicks in when resuming play audio is missing.
This can be solved by exiting the currently playing episode and reopening it
This unwanted behaviour is present since the last update

Windows or Mac?

Windows i have both here however have not tested this on my mac as I primarily use a windows box for playing from my server

@TechnicalPyro do you have something non-standard configured?

I cannot reproduce this with the exclusive audio enabled/disabled on Windows. Do you have this fullscreen? Also, does it occur with other media?

No nothing is non standard within my config. I have the NVIDIA HDMI selected as the default audio device but that choice seem to not be reflected when i view the settings mid episode. no other media player on this box does this i do not use the software full screen ever merely in a maximized window

it occurs with any in progress media using the plex player

Thanks. I am using analog audio out from my NUC via the 3.5mm jack. I will need to move it to a TV to test HDMI audio.

I tried with my NUC connected to a Sony TV via HDMI using the following settings;

  • Plex set to use Auto select device for audio
  • Windows audio settings had the Sony TV (Intel Display Audio) selected.
  1. I started playing a movie, then paused it and waited for the screen saver.
  2. After screensaver started I moved the mouse to dismiss the screensaver, then resumed playback.
  3. Audio could be heard via HDMI to the TV.

Could it be your HDMI connection goes to sleep when the screensaver starts? is there some NVIDIA HDMI power setting perhaps that needs to be disabled/enabled?

Based on your results and an odd behaviour i noticed from winamp of all things I believe what is happening is when windows triggers the screen saver it disables or hibernates the audio output to the TV(via the NVIDIA HDMI)

I’ve adapted by exiting out of whatever was playing (using the X in the lower control area) and just reopening whatever was playing

I also think i was tricked into thinking it was the software as a few things including my NVIDIA driver/windows and my desktop player all were updated within a day of each other
