Devices only see server when Firewall is dropped

Server Version#: Version 3.97.3
Player Version#: mix of fire TV, and PC’s on LAN

Ive always been set up as a private network and never had trouble with any of my 10 devices (fire-TV, other PC’s etc) connecting with my plex server (running on a dedicated machine in my closet).

Well, until tonight anyway… now nothing can find my server unless I turn off the "private network (active) firewall on the that dedicated box

I dont access the plex from offsite; so remote is disabled. I can see my shared folders on the server from other PC’s on the network, so I dont think its a networking issue. I checked the widows area where you tell the firewall what apps should get through, and plex was checkmarked under the private column; so that cant be it.

Since this is just my local network, should I leave the firewall down to keep plex devices happy or am i simply missing something at the network settings (or router settings level)?

Have you tried adding a rule to the firewall in Windows? Since turning it off lets everything work, I would guess that the issue is directly in the configuration of that firewall. I’ve quoted the related part of another thread:

That did it!

I read so many forum posts that went into DNS protection topics and other stuff that made my head spin; nothing was this clear and concise; thank you!!

PS: Whens the next time you guys are running a big discount of lifetime passes? The perks are per-server right (not per device)?

I’m just a community user, so no idea on upcoming discounts.

Most Plex Pass benefits are at the server level, so as long as the server owner has it, everyone else gets to enjoy them.
