Ok so Dexter New Blood on the first 2 episodes shows up as Season 9 of the series. However Episode 3 shows as its own series. I have tried naming the 3rd file the same format as the first 2 episodes but alas same issue. Help please
So couple of comments…
TVDB has the new Dexter miniseries listed as S09 from the original show but TMDB has it listed as a new show entry and miniseries (correctly so IMHO). So check how you have the ordering of episodes on the show under advanced in plex and if its matched correctly. Use tmdb-xxxxx ids to be sure.
Your naming looks odd… S01EP03 should really be S01E03 with no P in the name.
Check there is no embedded metadata in the file as it could have the S09E03 naming in it.
Finally, the episode only aired a few hours ago and it can take 24-48 hours for plex to get the metadata in its cache servers updated.
The naming is as such
Dexter.New.Blood.S01E03.Smoke.Signals.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264-NTb
Okay so as a test change the folder containing the new miniseries to the following Dexter: New Blood (2021) {tmdb-131927} and then fix the files to remove the full stops and match the plex naming scheme as they are poorly named at the moment.
AND… ensure that you are using tmdb as episode ordering for the show in plex as if your using tvdb then it’ll expecting the S09 naming and the episodes to be under the original show as just another series.
IM sorry that went over my head can you help with how to do that?

Okay then I would imagine it would need to be under the original Dexter show and named as S09 and NOT S01 like you have in the the example above.
Try changing…

Dexter.S09E03.Smoke.Signals.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264-NTb
and then rescan your plex library.
So I changed the format to Dexter.New.Blood.S09E03.Smoke.Signals.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264-NTb
And it disappeared from the Tv Show but it does not show up under season 9 like the first 2 episodes do. It just disappeared I found it had Joined with Dexter Season 1 Episode 3
How are the other episodes named? Even better would be a directory listing of everything in that directory and exactly what the directory name is.

So when you matched the show did you match it with Dexter or Dexter New Blood?
If you want it listed as Dexter S09 then it needs to be matched with Dexter and not Dexter New Blood.
I believe for this to work you would 1) need to match the show against Dexter (not Dexter New Blood) and name as S09Exx and 2) ensure episode ordering in plex is set to to tvdb and NOT tmdb.
Its just treated as new series of the original show.

Ended up moving to Season 1 Episode 3
Okay, please confirm the episode reordering. Its under edit for the series and the advanced tab.
It should be set to The TVBD? Which one there is a couple.
And Whatever I switch it to When I go to fix match or match it automatically goes to Plex TV Series

I’ll check later as I’m not at home at the moment and I’ve not added this episode yet.
Try changing tvdb from absolute to aired and see if that helps.
If not then the only thing I can guess is that it’s so new no metadata yet exists in the plex cache servers which is messing it up for you. It might sort itself out in 24 hours.
Anyhow I’ll report back later unless someone else jumps on this thread.

Okay, I get it now. There is no longer a S09 for Dexter on tvdb. See Dexter - TheTVDB.com.
Its now been split (correctly IMHO) into two shows with the new blood being the miniseries.

You will need to move it into its own show and rename as S01 and not S09 and match according the new entry.
Ok How do I get the first 2 episodes to show up in Dexter New Blood?
Move them as well and rename accordingly as S01. You may need to rescan, refresh metadata and empty trash.
Ok I took Season 9 Out of the Dexter directory
I then Moved in to the main TV directory and renamed it Dexter New Blood and changed the episode names to from S09 to S01
But the first 2 still show up as dexter season 9
