So for what ever reason Plex has been adding most of my TV shows as of late under metadata of Angry Birds Toons.
Files and folders are named as follows:
American Horror Stories/Season - 01/S01E01 -“Name of Episode”
Plex metadata will grab everything for Angry Birds Toons for that season and episode. I have to go into the newly added show and change manually fix metadata. If multiple shows are added I first have to split them apart then fix metadata.
Its not just American Horror Stories. It does it to about 50%-75% of shows that get added ( never on my plex server) once I have the show new episodes get put correctly. Just the inital metadata seems to default to Angry Birds Toons (which is not on my Plex at all)
Plex is very picky with TV shows naming and organization. It is best to follow the documentation as closely as possible. Variations may work, but at some point they may break.
Would the folder structure change the series metadata though? I recently added 8 shows that had incorrect series metadata. All pointing to angry birds toons. Once I fixed the show the episodes metadata were correct even with the season - xx folder names.
If it is a wrong season folder issue why would it point them all to same show.
I’m not saying you are wrong by any means, and I’m willing to try anything to fix the issue. It’s been going on for at least 2 months now. Everything is done using Sonarr, Radarr, and Overseerr.
I’ve always used filebot to name and rarely have problems. It names them either
Knots Landing - S03E04 - Block Party
Or
Knots Landing - 3x04 - Block Party
But - Plex likes the top one best, although I’ve never had issues with the bottom one
So TV Shows Folder/Knots Landing/Season 3/Knots Landing - S03E01 - Block Party
One thing I will say, on random occasions there will be embedded metadata in the actual file that screws everything up…If I ever have a case like that, I use Xmedia recode to remove it.
I usually do the SxxExx - name of episode, used to work perfectly until a few months ago and is getting worse. With folder structure as Show Name/Season - xx.
Going to try what fordguy says about removing the “-“ from season folders and see if it helps.
Yea - I’ve never done the - in the season folders. The only problem I have is randomly I’ll see weird posters for episodes of a tv show that is correct…Like all the posters will be correct but there’ll be like 1 or 2 random posters in a season that I have no clue what they are but they’re not related to the show. I manually change it.
So I just got home from work. Deleted all episodes of American Horror Stories. Did the Plex dance. Renamed the Season folder to remove the “-”, added back into the Plex folder, and still came back as Angry Birds Toons.
To which folder in the hierarchy of folders did you point your Plex library? It must be just /tv in your case.
Even though you appear to be using the new tv show metadata agent, I wonder if your troubles are caused by an incomplete conversion of the library from an old to the new agent.
In which case:
verify that “Plex TV Series” is picked in the library’s properties as the default agent
Perform “Refresh Metadata” at the highest level of the show (or maybe even the whole library, if you have some time to spare)
Perform the Plex Dance as a last ditch attempt, to make Plex forget the wrong association
You have Plex TV Series for both the scanner and the agent, correct?
If so, I do not know why Plex is not recognizing the show correctly.
One other thing to try:
Create a second TV library.
Move the show out of the current library.
Perform the Plex Dance (scan, empty trash, clean bundles)
Place the show in the second library.
If Plex correctly matches the show in the second library, then, as @OttoKerner mentions, something may have gone wrong if/when converting the original library to the new Plex TV agent.
