what are the differences between

Plex for Windows
Plex Media Player and
Plex HTPC?

Briefly:

  • Plex for Win: The new Plex app for your Win computer when using a normal monitor or laptop display.
  • PMP: The old Plex app, it had interfaces for both when a computer was being used “normally” and another interface for when hooked up to a TV. If you aren’t already using this and don’t have an immediate need, then don’t. It is not being enhanced any longer and all indications are it will be going away.
  • HTPC: The new target app that is still in development for when you are using your computer when hooked up to a TV (e.g. a Home Theater PC and often called a 10’ interface, because it is designed to be used when you are at least that far from the display.)
