Direct Connection Doesn't Work on Same IP Address

I am unable to create a direct connection to my server when I am on the same IP address. I either get an indirect connection warning or it just simply doesn’t connect. Seems to be about half the time for each. I know this is the issue because I get a direct connection if I turn on my VPN, or use connect on my phone with a data connection. People not on my network also connect perfectly.

Is there a setting I’m missing or messing up somewhere?

Check the network connection on the Plex Media Server. Make sure it is private, not public.

Windows 10: Settings → Network & Internet will display setting in Status section. Click Properties if you need to change to Private.

Do you mean the properties of my Wi-Fi network? It was public, but I set it to private and it’s the same issue. Unless I turn on my VPN and make it a remote connection, it’s always indirect and my streaming quality is reduced, or it won’t connect at all.
