I have a problem with playing media on multiple devices.
If I connect on my Windows 10 laptop where the Plex Media Server is installed. I can, offcourse, play the media in the maximum quality without any problems. If I use the plex client on my phone/Android tv/different laptop then I can play a maximum quality of 480p. This is possibly because I am not connected ‘directly’ to my server but ‘indirect’. I tried several things but the issue persists. I cannot get it on direct acces for some reason…
I’m connected to the same wifi with all the machines, so that should not be the issue. (I guess) I’ve also tried with an ethernet connection, but this is not working for me either.
Also when I’m trying to enable remote acces it’s going to disabled within 5 seconds… Very strange in my opinion, but I do not know for sure if this is related.
I’m still new, a newbie:), to this so a step by step instructions would be nice. If you need more information to help me feel free to ask.
Thank you in advance for your kindness to help me.
PS: I’m dutch, so sorry for my English
Server Version#: 1.15.6.1079 (Windows 10 PC, 16GB RAM, I7)
Player Version#: 7.16.1.10610 (Android TV)
When I plugin the Ethernet cable in the server laptop and I connect to the client application on my other laptop or TV(wifi) then I cannot establish a direct connection. (or the other way around)
It is always connecting indirect. Because the connection is not direct I cannot play my media on high resolution.
The error code is literally saying that this issue is causing because I do not have a direct connection.
So I guess the main question is: How do I establish a direct connection. At first in my own home, so on the same network.
Getting a direct connection has nothing to do with a WiFi or Ethernet connection. Ethernet is the best option if available. Now you have to have a static IP and Port Forwarding setup. If you did this prior with the WiFi connection, then you just need to update it with the Ethernet IP info. Then go to Remote Access and make sure you have the green padlock and should be good then.
This I tried, but when I followed the instructions of my internet provider I did not get an internet connection at all… I will update the error message when i’m home.
So I gave my pc a static IP adres so that is step one complete.
I am still getting the indirect access. That being said.
Now I tried to use port forwarding, but this is one step too much for me I guess.
I’ve tried to use some guides from my provider but I’m getting stuck there.
When I take a look in my modem/router settings, I can see the modem is giving my laptop a IPv4 adres and not an IPv6 adres. If i’m looking to the IP/Portforwarding section I see this:
I helped a friend get his PLEX server going. He had the gigablast service with cox communications using their equipment router/modem combo. Was supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread according to his ISP of course. It kept losing the green padlock for a Direct connection. Had to go through their web portal to make router changes. I suggested getting his own equipment. He got a new Netgear router and used their combo just for the modem part and everything worked like a charm. Not too long later he replaced their modem with his own and been working great since with no issues.
Hey
I have the same problem! And it looks to me that your internet provider belongs to Liberty Global. Is this correct? If so, does anyone know what kind of questions one would have to ask our internet provider?
Is this problem known?
Thank you!
Update: Without doing anything other then give my Plex server laptop a static IP adres, I’m now able to play media on ‘original’. (after some time, I’ve tried a few series/films)
Hopefully it stays this way, but I find it strange that I cannot lower my resolution if I want to.
Also if I’m trying to enable remote access I see the green letters that I can use it, but then in 5 seconds it is red again…
