Direct play working with old PMS but not last update

Server Version#: 1.16.1.1291
Player Version#: 7.8.2.8255

Hi, so I own a Sony Bravia with Android, recently I’ve find that movie triggered transcoding on the last version of both PMS and android app, I then reinstall older version, the problem is now gone, I can play the same video in 1080p with DTS 5.1 without any transcoding, no cpu activity, plex web showing Direct play.

So I wonder what is going on, if you need logs with specific version installed tell me.

Those are very old versions. PMS 1.16.1 was released in 2019. Android TV 7.8.2 was released in 2018.

Current Plex Media Server: 1.23.5.4841 / 1.23.6.4810 (Plex Pass)
Current Android TV: 8.20.1

Can you update to the current versions?

If so, then update both server and app, then play the media.

If still transcoding, then pull server logs and application logs that capture the problem and post to the thread.

Yeah I know, like I said, I’ve voluntarily regressed to older versions to get the direct play working, it was on purpose to compare.

Anyway here are the logs with PMS: 1.23.5.4841 and Android 8.20.1.26670, the issue is even worst now, for the tv show “Louie” especially, Plex stay stuck on loading, (keep in mind I didn’t had any problem playing it with the prior version mentioned in my first post)

Hope this help resolving the issue.

Please enable debug, but not verbose, level logging on your server, then re-create the error and post a new set of logs. The additional detail is needed to see what is happening.

Thanks

Oh my bad, I had enabled the web debug option…

Thanks!

And also, the old Android app take way much less time to load compared to the 8.20.1, I know a lots of things have been added to it in the meantime, but still, the loading should be faster.

Frankly looking at it right now, the GUI of both Plex web and Android are better for me and simpler with the old version, less clutter, I know I miss a lot of improvement/performance and even security, but since my server is not online, I think I’m gonna stick with the old versions.

Thanks.
