I like push notifications. They’re awesome. Whats not so great, is when my family(home users) can see every notification I can see. Please allow us to disable this
They are disabled from the client level. And the user can turn off what they don’t want and leave what they do want (Newly available content for instance).
Here’s the Support Article that details settings on iOS:
Scroll down to the “Notifications” area. There’s a similar article for Android.
Sorry, but this is essentially useless.
The Notifications section of the app is an “all or nothing” option and you don’t have the opportunity to deselect at a server level. I have a friend’s server in my setup that I am CONSTANTLY getting notifications of content adds from OTA recordings that I couldn’t care less about.
This needs to be FIXED by Pless so that I don’t have to endure all of HIS updates just to also be able to get MY updates.
I did the EXACT thing you speak of. After he enabled Push Notifications I was getting notified when he recorded the news. I went into Notifications on my iPhone and deselected “All Libraries” which then gave me the option to enable libraries on a library by library basis. Had to have iOS Plex Client 6.6
No it is not.
Actually, yes it is. It starts out as all. Unchecking that box turns it into nothing. AFTER that, you can go through and select if there are individual items you wish to subscribe to.
Overall, it’s yet another half-assed implementation by the Plex team. The way this SHOULD be handled is to allow the activation of Push notifications on a per-library (or per show in the case of DCR series recordings or similar) basis and the ability for the admin to select whether or not it should be enabled by default on A) all clients, B) all server-native clients (not “friends” that you are connected with), or C) no clients. It’s 100% unreasonable to simply enable push notifications on one server and have that automatically turn that on for ALL connected users regardless of their individual preferences.
Even as an admin that operates multiple servers, I would NEVER want to auto-enable every single solitary library across all of my systems for push notifications simply because I turned on the option on a per-server basis.
I agree… this is a necessary option and it seems ridiculous that it isn’t there from the beginning. We have all these options to restrict Libraries, Live TV etc but nothing for push messages which ought to be for administrators only!
Yeah - what’s the deal here? I just enabled push notifications for the first time today and was surprised to learn some of my users are seeing what others are watching. I would think that’d be an admin-only type of message. And no, this shouldn’t be controllable at the client level. If I have a client who wants to see notifications of what others are watching, but I, as admin, don’t want him to… I should be able to override that.
This is a deal-breaker with notifications. I wanted to encourage my users (about 7 members of my family) to use this for when new content is added. But now it’ll just spook them into worrying about everyone in the family knowing they’re watching 27 Dresses… again.
