Mobile Push Notifications Feedback

Hey all,

Now that Push notifications to mobile apps has been out for about 6 months wanted to check in and see how folks are feeling about them as they exist now and anything you might want to improve with notifications.

My personal usage of the notifications have been just fine. I’m glad there are options to turn on off when needed. Thank you for this feature.

I believe there is still an outstanding bug on iOS when you delete and reinstall Plex app, the user is no longer able to enable notifications.

Is it by design that iPadOS does not have this feature?

I’m fairly certain it does; however, if you have ever installed / uninstalled / reinstalled the Plex app on that actual device, then there is no way to enable notifications for the Plex app…

It does have the feature. After enabling it on your server you need to enable it in the Plex app on your device in Settings>Notifications. https://support.plex.tv/articles/push-notifications/

Use them heavily on my android phone and tablet as it’s good to see when someone starts playback and when a database backup is succesful… Not sure how doable this is but would like to see them extended to the new Windows client as i’m not always close to my phone.

i like it very much, as others have stated, it allows me to see who is logging in from a new device. For more detailed information i use the Tautuilli plugin. That would be too much for the home screen but perhaps options for more notifications with users being able to select what they want would be useful.

What sort of details/options?

Recording: started, stopped, successful, failed

Database backup failed; Database corruption detected (no idea if Plex checks for this last one but it’d be good if it did )

Stuff like that

database corruption is already an option, the recording stuff i completely forgot about but that would be very useful.

Interesting, I had forgotten about the individual settings; turns out I have “new device” set to off but I still get those notifications…

I love the feature.

If it could be used by the admin to send messages to the users, let’s say to inform them about a system outage for maintenance, that would be excellent!

Awesome idea

@brubau I agree, that would be great.

Also what I’d also like is that I as the admin for my server I’d like to set what my users should receive and what not. Now all my users get info if someone’s logging in with a new device for example. They don’t need that in my opinion, only I should get that to monitor everything.

Also I saw an issue with the plex IOS app regarding notifications. I tried with multiple IOS devices and I always received every notification even if I selected to receive just on certain actions or even if I set none at all (but activated notifications).

I have been receiving multiple notifications when new shows are added. Usually it’s 3-4 notifications. I have notifications turned on my iOS devices

they are not supposed to be.

can you make a new forum topic with your iOS logs. both of those seems like bugs

can you please make a new topic with your iOS logs

Would it be possible to push notifications to users when content is added?
