The Watchlist is moving into the sidebar and out of home.
The source will have two tabs: Recommended and Watchlist. The recommended pivot will feature hubs using your watchlist data (ex: Shows Available from your watchlist). The watchlist pivot will be a grid view similar to what exists today.
The new source will be auto-pinned in the 2nd position of the sidebar. The Watchlist source will not promote any hubs so there will be no change to your screen. You can choose to reorder or unpin the source based on your preference.
You can now view the details of a cast or crew member using one of our mobile, web, or TV apps. When you click on a cast or crew member, you’ll see:
The new Discover Credits page with details about the person
Titles with that person available on any server you have access to
A list of libraries containing those titles with those individuals
The Free On Demand titles they’re in (this respects your online media sources setting)
Their full filmography
In addition to finding cast and crew via a details page, you can now search for people that aren’t in your libraries. There’s a new “People” section in search displaying those results.
Finally having the ability to see what the cast have been in is quite franky an AMAZING, long overdue addition so well done to the team!
My only complaint really is that The Watchlist (and Discover) doesn’t treat local media as a streaming service. This basically renders “Available From Your Watchlist”, the “Available to Stream” watchlist filter and now the new "Continue Watching”, “Available Movies” & “Available Shows” utterly useless (for some items).
Tinkering around with this a bit, I really like it. I love digging into an Actor’s filmography and looking for interesting things and seeing where those things can be found. Excellent work!
Only thing I’ve found thus far:
I’ve searched Patrick Stewart. I click on his name in results. I’m then asked which library I’d like to search him in, when I’d expect to be taken to his mini-biography page.
So I click his name in the library I want, and I’m taken to a results page of all the movies I have with him in it. I get that this is likely by design, but I’d almost rather expect the bio page as not only does it list everything I have anyway, it gives me more in the end. Actually, a testament to the work you’ve done building that out because it’s that well put together.
Food for thought. I could be in a minority there for what I’d want to see.
Also:
Add the filmography to the end of the bio page in the client apps like it appears in the web app. Remove the extra click to get to it as it logically fits below. Or leave the button and add the list at the end?
I second this, I would also prefer to be taken directly to the new filmography page. It not only looks better, but it provides a much more unified experience.
There are two sections of results. Click on the one under “People” section of results and it should get you there rather than the library filtered grid.
Perhaps move the “People” section to the top of the search results? If I’m searching a person, I would expect results related to that person first. Not necessarily my libraries.
I don’t believe so? I can access Robert Pattersons filmography from media pages, but not from search.
Actually, now that I’m looking I can’t access any of the filmography pages for Actors in my library from search. It seems that if Plex detects them under “Media Libraries” they are removed from the “People” section which is how you access said pages correct?
Is there a technically reason as to why you didn’t default to the filmography pages in general? Or was it to avoid backlash from the boring sods among us
I would also like to add that the new “Continue Watching” is missing LOTS of Shows that are available. This must be a bug because the “Available Shows” hub is showing items that I’m watching
I don’t know about anybody else, but I would actually prefer if the “Available From Your Watchlist” hub was linked to the Watchlist library instead of Discover, it just makes more sense tbh. This would allow me to move Discover to the bottom while still keeping the Watchlist hub at the top.
Delighted to see Watchlist moved to the sidebar, really good place to have this so we can control it
Minor annoyance is that I’ve had to unpin it from every client. Would have hoped an unpin on one client would replicate/sync that setting to all other clients. Anyhow, minor annoyance as I say and thanks for giving us the option to unpin.
On the people/cast search, I have the scope set to JUST MY SERVER with all the discover stuff disabled on my account so why when I search for someone do I get results from the plex cloud returned ?
The results in the People link goes off the to the plex cloud which I don’t want. It should only return Media Libraries which has MY content …
I found an issue for managed users (In Plex for Windows 1.56.2.3345-2a4c0924, AND in the Hosted Web App). I am unable to get to get to an actor’s profile page using the search. It shows the old behavior as before where you can select the actor’s movies or shows specific to a particular library. Look at the pic:
If I click the first link, it just goes to the library view of that library, with a filter for his name.
In order to get to his profile, I have to select a movie he is in, and THEN click his portrait to get to the credits page. This means that managed users can get to the page, but for some reason it isn’t showing as a result in “Search”:
@Divideby0 The one under Media Libraries still does old behavior. No not sure why your managed user not seeing the People section of results. Do you see the People section under your own admin user?
So just want to check something, on the Web UI using Plex.tv, if I go a movie click and actor I get the new page that shows all this wonderful info.
If I go to a TV show and say click on Ted Danson it only shows me the old view, i.e it creates a filter of what is on my TV library with him in it. But if I search for Ted Danson and select People I get all that new info for him.
Is this limited to the Movie library at the moment? I just tested on the android Mobile client and it is the same.
@moe2046 It does work for TV librares. Make sure your TV library is not hitting of the the caveats listed in FAQ the bottom the article linked in first post.
I searched John Malkovich when I was playing around because I know his name also returns as a film result. A surprise was finding two entries for him under the People section. Expected, or a data glitch?
