Im finding that most of my friends that have accepted are not actually showing a true indication of watched history.
Watchlist seems right but these friends have definitely watched more then 2-3 movies

@d2freak Thanks for reporting! An issue has been filed for this.
Hi, you could check with your friends whether they have enabled the Watch State Sync
Another idea on how to reduce the feed clutter, have you guys considered moving the Issues to their own (separate) page/feed?
It’s pretty simple really, just remove issues from the Activity page entirely and add them to their own Issues page that is visible only to server owners. But don’t worry, I know it’s handy for users to see the reported issues. To combat that, why don’t you create a new button / icon (Caution) on the media pages that links to a separate feed that only displays issues reported for that item? Franky I wouldn’t even consider a reported issue an “Activity” in the eyes of a standard user and personally I don’t actually understand what need a user would have to see these entires outside the Media page? If there’s a use I’m missing please explain but I don’t see any users wanting to see a feed of all issues reported?
Maybe something like this for the user?
My friends have sync ratings turned ON, and all activity set to “friends only” but ALL their profiles are show 0s for any watch history.
@cmgfender can you message me one of your friends usernames that you know Syncing Watch State is enabled
Done!
hmmm. Their account looks fine to me. I’m gonna need to check if others have any ideas. Is your own watch history showing correctly with stuff from before you enabled it? which should indicate your server has no issue uploading the data.
Yessir, all good on my end. Ive restarted the server twice today as well.

Can you refresh profile page for that user that begins with T. one of our devs said we show they had data synced a few minutes ago.
Still zeros on my end. I had more users enable it as well if youd like the other usernames (sent a few) but also zeros for them. Attached refreshed profile watched stats

would you mind messaging me your server logs
sent!
Im not sure if you guys did anything but it seems to be working for those users now.
Just a feature suggestion now, but would a “popular among friends” section in discover be possible? Drawing suggestions from this data
There was some sort of rate limiting errors that the dev said he would ping me when done fixing. looks like they are finished or close to finished.
yeah. it has been asked for before. my reply to another user further up in this topic
Not sure why an online DB is needed. Perhaps for some of the fancy stuff. However, it strikes me as odd that I can share a show to a Plex friend but I can’t recommend an album…
@adefaria When you say check out this movie. we already have info about that movie in our DB and you are just talking about that movie in our DB whether you have it on your server or not.
If you say check out this random album on your server and we don’t have a record of it (because
there are a billion more albums than there are movies) and it goes through our system then we know what you have on your server. We don’t want to know what is on anyone’s server
I noticed the language here about “two years”, specifically:
your Watch History setting will apply for two years
Can anyone explain what happens after two years? This worries me.
It sounds like it’s going to start automatically sharing my private information without my consent after two years. I hope that’s not the case. Can someone from Plex please clarify?
No, it’s basically the opposite. After two years, the setting will go back to the default “Private” value. And after that point, you’ll presumably get re-prompted to make a choice. (But I don’t think anyone can say for certain whether you’d get another in-app prompt or something else, seeing as it’s hard to say precisely what the situation is going to be two years from now.
)
Thanks for clarifying. I would suggest that the wording on that screen needs to be improved, because the way it’s stated currently, both interpretations are logically possible outcomes, if taken literally without any further context.
This is worsened by the fact that it is not at all clear to a user that this feature is “off” before the user proceeds through this screen. The fact that all three options are pre-selected to “on” caused me to think that those features were already on before I arrived on these screens, and it is clear from reading these posts that I am not the only one who thought so. Therefore, when the UI says “your setting will apply”, I reasonably thought that “my setting” was the one I had chosen, “Private”, rather than the one that was pre-selected, “Friends Only”, and that “Private” would therefore no longer apply after two years.
Plex employees have repeatedly stated their opinion in this thread that they did not believe this would be a problem because it supposedly defaults to off. But you have to understand that as users, we do not share the same knowledge of the inner workings of the system that you have. If the user is reasonably led by the UI to an incorrect understanding of how the system works, then the fault is not in the user, but rather the fault is in the UI; regardless of how the system actually works. This is particularly problematic when the concepts involved are related to privacy, which is of high concern for many people.
The situation is not helped by dystopian phrases like “you’re in control”, which provide no useful information and ironically suggest the opposite (by asking us to place our trust in an semi-anonymous group of people who have not done anything yet to earn that trust).
I will say however, that I am impressed by the Plex team’s responsiveness in this thread, and your willingness to engage with us directly. This was more than I expected, and I appreciate it.
