Hi,
I tried to find a topic about this but couldn’t. The current content filters (view by year, by content rating, by director) doesn’t include an option to view content by resolution or format (i.e. 720p, SD, 1080p etc). Am I missing something, or would this be really helpful (it would for me…)?
Thanks.
42 views and counting… If this feature exists already, could someone please help me out? Thanks a lot.
There is no way to do it yet, but we can look into adding it in the future!
Thanks a lot for your reply. From here it doesn’t look like a very time-consuming thing to add, since Plex maintains metadata for this automatically (i.e. every movie has resolution, DTS/Dolby info etc auto-scanned and associated with it).
Whether you have time for it or not, thumbs up for your excellent work.
Also smart filters would be awesome (example : 720p or 1080p, year higher or equal to 2008, rating minimum of 3 stars).
Concerning your point, I created different sections in PMS : HD Movies (contains my 720p and 1080p folders), SD Movies and Movies (contains all folders).
For the good news, a watched movie through the "HD Movies" section will also have the watched status in "Movies" section. For the bad news, if you edit any metadata on a movie of a section, it won't change in other sections (including posters and fanarts).
I asked the devs to apply any change on a movie to other sections but they said it just doesn't make sense to have the same movie in two or more sections :(
I personaly do not agree with this because I think that everyone must have the opportunity to create sections based on any classification folders like quality, languages or anything else. The idea of having a movie in different sections would make sense for example in an All Movies, Prefered Movies, Horror Movies and HD Movies sections.
Currently I’m using a similar solution, with separate “physical” folders for SD & HD content. However, I don’t want to get into the hassle of having double entries in PML, which was the point of my feature request. In the long run smart filters would be nice, of course, but I think the resolution filter should be a very quick & easy addition. The app can currently show all films by director, by year, by content rating, and simply displays the entries it has for these fields in its database. Unless I’m mistaken, the SD/480p/720p/1080p info is just another metadata field, like the above.
Just my 2c.
Probably the majority doesn’t want to sort by resolution. So before this filter is added it should be possible to edit the filters manually. For example I can remove the filter by director or only show the resolution filter. I’m just telling this because I’m going to make a feature request for exactly this issue.
A small precision : I don’t really want to sort by resolution, I just want to be able to see, for example, only 1080p movies.
+1 for those of us who have mixed HD and SD Libraries this would be a godsend. also wouldn't it be fairly easy to run a query to do the filter from the database such as Select Height from media_items where library_section_ id=1;(depends on section chosen. Then sort it - if width < 540 then it's "SD" / if Width >= 540 then it's "HD". Just a thought. PS keep up the great work.
Any progress on that issue?
An alternative idea, maybe easier to implement:
Because you can’t currently filter by resolution, I have two folders, “HD” & “SD”, which in turn contain folders with actual media files. Each folder has a section by the same name in Media Manager, pointing to that folder. It should be possible to add both folders to a single section (called “Movies” and pointing to both the SD and HD folders), and then search for a movie with the “By Folder” option. However, when you select “By Folder” you’re presented with a list of all the subfolders within the HD & SD folders, and there’s no way to list only the contents of one of them.
Making this possible might be less complicated to do than adding resolution-filtering, or am I wrong?
Thank.

I would like to request this feature as well. I like the idea presented by @mitch969 about smart filters.
Seems this is already possible in the latest version. Thanks! I should have checked.
