to cite a few, resolution being the most important for me
how come ? also if you could make the dropdown menu similar for both, why for movie its goes content rating, collection when for TV show its content rating, studio, network, country, collection ?
Filtering by resolution per episode gives a very long list, because it returns a match for each episode that has the resolution you’re looking for. So the more shows you have, the longer the list gets.
But isn’t this approach a bit counterintuitive? Usually, if you have a specific resolution — say 720p — it’s consistent across the whole season.
Pshanew’s method is actually better, since it does exactly what I’m looking for and prevents the screen from being filled with hundreds of hits. But it’s still a bit cumbersome to have to use the advanced filter to get it, while for movies it’s the standard behavior.
So is there a technical reason why you guys chose a different approach from the one used for movies?
This is only supposition, but my guess is that it’s because “resolution” isn’t an inherent property of the show itself. You can (and in fact I do) have shows where the episodes it contains are of different resolutions.
For example, I have shows whose episodes are 480p, 576p, and 720p. So, for the advanced filter I showed above, what it’s really showing are TV shows which have at least one episode of the desired resolution. I’d still have to switch to viewing by episodes to see which ones specifically are the desired resolution.
If you’ve built your TV libraries such that each show’s episodes are all of the same resolution then it might be useful to have a high-level filter for it at the show-level. But, practically, a show doesn’t have a resolution; only its individual episodes do.
Just adding a thought… you can use an advanced filter (see BigWheel’s screenshot… option at the bottom of the filter list).
This allows to filter for (episodes) with a specific resolution while displaying the results grouped by shows. This way, Plex will list all shows that contain a single low-res episode as well as all shows that are entirely available in the resolution you’re interested in.
