One little feature I think would be great would be the ability to search/filter by resolution e.g. 480p, 720p, 1080p etc...
I imagine this could just be added to the filter section on the left within Plex/Web.

You can already. Its called "Resolution" under the filter section.
that filter/sort is actually only available for movies (you will see on left side when in a movies section).
at least when you are looking at it by episode maybe it should be there too, as not every episode file within a show may be the same.

Ah ok. I basically wanted to see everything I have in say 720p so I can start replacing it with 1080p
Maybe a weird idea but I actually think this might work while locating to replace seems to be your goal:
How about defining a smart folder and select the parameters "pixel height" and "pixel width"?

Indeed, that should show a folder per resolution and you would immediately see in Finder which you could upgrade to a higher resolution.
I know, weird and out-of-the-box but it might do the trick of what you’re trying to accomplish

Yeah, my PMS is on an Ubuntu box, sounds like lots of faffing is involved, I've got about 7TB worth of content.
My apologies, somehow I read that you had it installed on OS X. Ubuntu you say, then how about installing the mplayer package and using the included midentify.sh script to show you the resolution of the movies?
This would involve going into the shell but I somehow expect that doesn't scares you off :)
I could spend time scripting it out and running it. However this seemed like a reasonably easy thing to add since resolution data is stored within the Plex DB already.
I understand but I figured the coders would already be very busy with ironing out all current issues of the PHT and it might be nice to give you some ideas to get the desired results anyway
No rush, just wanted to mention it. Will look at alternative methods if I get time.
