False. Plex should remember why we even have plex in the first place. It isn’t to use out little phones to view our content. Plex should focus on actually implementing a consistent UI/UX on the premier devices first, then move on to the lesser devices, then the lesser phones.
Just bumping again. Would be amazing to be able to see tv show extras on the seasons they apply to on the premier devices that us paying customers use.
I suppose it’s worth mentioning that the Plex Experience preview for tvOS supports accessing extras for all tiers of a tv show… including season-level ones.
To spare everyone from the 10 page disappointment rant on new plex UI is forced on us, at least there is some traction on this ticket. If paying users are going to be punished, there could be a tiny silver lining.
Why plex, inc doesn’t get feature complete on the only device that will ever matter (nvidia shield) is beyond me. Dogfooding must not be an engineering standard at plex, inc.
I don’t have a Nvidia Shield and wasn’t planning on getting one. I just wish Plex was self-consistent. If extras can be defined at three different tiers (series, season, episode) then the program should be able to not only detect extras at all three tiers but present them and allow playback of extras on all three tiers on all clients.
Maybe you’re right that the Nvidia Shield represents the biggest playback device. However, I would argue that the web page on the computer used to prep the files is still probably the least common denominator for all of us and is still the least capable client. Add a bunch of extras? Can’t check that they got detected correctly without a second device. Why everything can’t be done on the server is just mind boggling.
Finally got into the beta for the new experience. I haven’t really had time to come to any kind of opinion about it, but I am excited that it seems like we might finally get all levels of extras everywhere. I can finally stop putting them all at the show level and just trying to label what season they go with!
[Edit just to say that now that the non-beta new experience is here on AppleTV… season level extras are nowhere other than be found again. Sigh…]
I was having trouble getting extras for Doctor Who to appear in the seasons, when searching to solve the problem I landed on a reddit page from 4 years ago that pointed me to refreshing specifically the metadata for the show, but it did not show up. After scrolling through the thread come to find out that stuff will not necessarily appear for all players. So I open my phone app and sure enough, there it is. That thread still occasionally has people go into it as a joke saying still not added. The support page https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/ was last updated in February this year (2025).
I’m advocating for adding more support for local extras for seasons and if possible specifically per episode to all platforms.
Plex recognizes tv-show extras fine if named/organized properly.
The new experience apps (Android mobile, iOS, Apple TV preview, Roku) will display local extras on all tiers (show, season and episodes).
So still not confirmed support for all tiers(Show, season, and episodes) on all platforms like Plex Web Windows, and Desktop app? Just what is in the preview has it.
Yes, support is still a bit „spotted“.
Your Android TV / SHIELD should support extras for shows and episodes (but not seasons). This should be available when the Android TV app is upgraded to the new experience .
No word on the desktop apps / plex Web, hence the suggestion.
So… we have the new experience on AppleTV and… I still can’t seem to find season level extras. Am I missing something? I have shows with season level extras in properly named folders, etc. (they show up on the iOS app) and… nothing. I can still see show level, and episodes level extras, but not season level ones. This was the one thing I was actually looking forward to with the new experience!
I was pretty sure they were there during the beta (and sure enough I see a comment from myself further upthread confirming that was the case!). What happened? Why is this still an issue?
Still showing up for my tv show library in the tvOS preview (for all tiers: show, season and episodes) — tvOS 18.6, Plex 2025.23.0 (1215) w/ PMS 1.42.1.10060
It seems I was removed from the Testflight at some point? I had automatic updates one and everything. Plex doesn’t show up in Testflight on my AppleTV, and on iOS it says the build I was testing has been removed. Oddly it doesn’t even show up in my “previously testing” section for Testflight on the AppleTV.
