Are you implying Plex is in financial trouble? Bummer if true…
I don’t know about “trouble” but their financials aren’t great as the bet on the Ad-supported streaming doesn’t seem to be paying off currently. I just am mentioning that a reduction of 20% of their people, after a layoff earlier this year, means that the folks who remain are going to be overloaded and leadership will have to be even more selective about where they spend resources on improvements.

What do you expect if a company ignores useful Feature Requests from its customers for years and instead brings stuff that noone asked for while removing more and more useful functionality like plugins.
So if this means TV Extras will never become visible on the main platforms web and windows and not only on some small mobile phones, there is no reason left to bother with this “new agent” anymore. The Extras are the only reason why I accepted a lot of additional work for correcting endless crap of TMDB metadata I get by using this agent.
I also understand the only useful feature of this new agent was the Metadata and I needed a Plex pass to get the Extras, so there is no use for a Plex Pass as well anymore.
Pity, but thanks for this information.
Still hasn’t happened yet, losing hope that it ever will. Bummer that my Shield that can direct play my videos won’t show any of my Season Level extras, making me use the app built into my TV with terrible direct play capability to see them instead.
Yep. Been waiting for this on my AppleTV for a long time too. Since that’s where I do most of my watching I’ve had to put all extras in the general section, and try to remember to add something to the names so that if some day I can finally use season level extras I know what goes where.
4ish months later… still hoping this will happen some day… (hopefully soon!)
PLEASE get season level extra visibility added to Android TV/Apple TV apps!
Just bumping this again, hopefully Plex, inc reconsiders shelving this effort (imagine thinking paying users only want to view extras on some ipad instead of the premier clients) as per this comment in the fireside chat: Plex Fireside in the Forum 2024 - #315 by McWanke
Kind of insulting to purposefully not allow features of TV shows by season as a corporate goal.
Which part of their response do you find insulting?
I look forward to referencing this comment during 2025’s fireside chat.
Have worked with enough c-suite individuals to know what is really being said in that quote.
Why the premier devices (shield + appletv) don’t have this functionality is beyond confusing. Shield and AppleTV should be feature complete first, then roll out to lesser devices. But then again, it’s hard to buildout a social media platform that has a remote control as an input device so I get it from resource allocation on Keith’s side of the house.
What’s frustrating is this feature was expanded when the Plex TV Series agent was released 4-5 years ago. The current support page states
Certain clients do not yet fully support TV extras but keep an eye out on our forum as our support pages will be updated once official support is available. Currently, the only clients that fully support extras at all levels are the mobile iOS and Android apps. Other apps like the web client, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku have limited support.
But now we’re being told there are no plans for that.
Let me try and clarify my comments as I believe they may be a bit misunderstood.
When I stated:
it sounds like there is quite a bit of desire for us to keep growing this feature!
my intent was to call out that I am recognizing the multiple comments in the Fireside thread around people asking for additional functionality here which I assumed to imply requests for new functionality, whether that be new features or new media.
I have passed along the Fireside comments but am not directly involved with the people who would work on parity across clients, so my comments should not be taken as implying anything around any current projects or work (or lack thereof) there. I simply do not have the context to provide status at this time.
This is not new in the sense of functionality that exists, it is functionality that is effectively broken for anyone with devices that have the inconsistent UI. It isn’t just a nice to have feature, it directly affects how you have to organize your media. If you organize it in a way that takes advantage of the devices that support the more current feature set, then you can’t see the extras elsewhere. So you have to fall back to the lowest common denominator. Having UI’s that do not work the same across devices is a really poor customer experience. If something can’t be done across devices, it shouldn’t be done.
Now that we are public with the new UI betas on iOS and Android Mobile (perhaps not fully supported, but at least loads on set top android TV per reddit) - are you able to share if per season extras will be available on the Shield?
How are we tracking with this? Anything us folks with a shield pro can assist with?

For what it’s worth, local extras for tv show libraries is showing fine on all levels in the Plex Experience preview apps. Though those are currently only available on the mobile platforms (where this already used to work for all tiers of a show).
Indeed, and mobile apps currently work as well per the chart above. I’m concerned that plex, inc forgot that the shield pro and apple tv 1) exist and 2) are the premier devices that should be feature complete before even thinking about phones.
I don’t watch my plex media on a phone. I watch my plex media on a real tv.
I’m sure they will eventually get around to it. I know there are a lot of Shields sold, but it pales in comparison to how many phones are out there. Also, their bread and butter is with streaming and lots of people watch shows/movies on their phones so, it makes sense to focus on that first.
You obviously missed that this thread was started over 4 years ago. So no, there is no expectation that they are just gonna ‘eventually get around to it’.
This is still an active pain in the ass issue for storing media as unless the UI is consistent you have to organize things to the lowest functionality level. You literally can’t have the extras in the season folders if you actually want to watch them on your primary display as they are effectively hidden. You have to pile them up at the series level.
