Displayed title not matching TMDb title

And while it may seem a trivial error, the slight name difference bothers my OCD.

I have searched the forums, but I haven’t found a topic that matches what I’m asking: Where does Plex pull this info from so that I may go to that site and report the error? It can’t be TMDb, as that site’s name is correct.

It’s the official title of this movie on IMDb
(down to the weird half space after the comma, which has no reason to be there, if there’s already a comma present)

Interesting. I don’t know why I didn’t think to check IMDb. Probably because there’s no mention of Plex using it (other than displaying the ratings). Everything I’ve come across says it pulls metadata from TMDb. Now I know, thanks.

In IMDb and TMDb, Æon Flux is listed with special characters:

But in Plex, it is not:

Where is the metadata for the title pulled from in this case?

Titles may also differ depending on what language has been selected for the library.

I checked, there is no embedded data. Display language is English, but then again, so is IMDb.

Have you tried the plex dance on the movie? Title comes in correct for me with English (UK) settings so could just bad data now I’m the db which the dance will help resolve.

Wild suggestion here! I see your poster has some embedded ratings on it. Could whatever you are using to do that be effecting the title somehow?

Also, I assume your using the new modern plex movie agent/scanner, right?

Failing that, plex logs after a plex dance on the movie will help figure out what’s happening.

The ratings are from Plex Meta Manager, but that shouldn’t affect the titles afaik.

I don’t use plex meta manager but according to their website …

Manage metadata [artwork, titles, summaries, release year, etc.] for anything on your Plex server.

… which states titles so it could be a factor.

I could be way off the mark here but it looks to me to be getting info from plex-meta-manager …

Unless someone else has a suggestion, considering no one else has this issue I’d suggest disabling plex-meta-manager (as a test) and yet again plex dance the movie using plex’s own metadata. I’d bet once plex-meta-manager is removed as a factor the issue will resolve itself.

If we’re still talking about Æon Flux, my PMS also shows it as Aeon Flux. I know it wasn’t always like that, so I can only assume that, for some reason, Plex is taking the name from IMDB’s “alternative spelling”. This probably only affects users who have their library language set to “English”.

This looks like my search for the title in Plex. At that time I’d searched for exactly that: flux. It was the fastest way to get to it.
