Distinct "watched status" for each instance of a movie

As possibly some other users, I have more and more movies stored in several formats on my Plex Server.

Ex.: for one movie, I can store 3 formats:

- a HD version

- a SD version that I keep for my mobile/tablets (although I have now the sync feature!)

- a 3D version

Each version is stored in a separated folder and each folder is member of a distinct library.

The problem is that Plex is keeping track of a unique "watched status" for the three version.

I.e.:

- assume that I watch the HD version on my TV and stop in the middle

- when the kids start to watch the 3D version, Plex offers to start from the middle.

- they restart for sure from the beginning and possibly watch the complete movie.

- so, when I want to continue with the HD version, I have lost the progress status :(

The problem is not only for movies stored in various format but also for those stored in various versions: standard, director cut, extended, remastered, etc... - or even in several languages (if not using multi-audio track). Ex.: I have some movies both in french and in polish (stored in distinct libraries).

I have been told by a ninja that I could use distinct accounts... There is indeed a distinct watched status per account.

(And I do so now for kids and me). But still, it doesn't help for movies in various versions. To be honest, this is not a big issue as I don't watch simultaneously the various versions :D

But support for a distinct watched status per instance of a movie would be a "nice-to-have".

[EDIT[ Another related issue I would like to get "solved" is when searching for a movies which is in several libraries.. See here

There is a trick to the metadata I've been told about, tho never tested myself. The watched status is tied to the video's ID as described by the metadata agent matching it.

In theory you should be able to match one movie with freebase and another with TMDB and keep separate watched status for different versions of the same video.

That could be a good trick if I only had two versions of the movie… But it would also results in different covers and descriptions. And I am quite maniac regarding consistency

But it’s good to understand where the limitation comes from!

Thx a lot for sharing this info.
