Multiple versions all appear as watched in the overview even though I've watched 1 specific version

Not a big problem but I just wanted to share this since I can’t find a solution.

Recently I’ve upgraded to 4K-HDR files and at the moment I’ve decided to keep the 1080p files in the server (convenience and temp backup).

Now the thing is. If I play the 4K version (vice versa) and I stop watching Plex will show both versions as recently watched. So there will be 2 images showing of the same movies with different qualities. As aformentioned not a big problem but can be annoying.

Layout Library:
I’ve devided my library into categories

  • Movies → 1080p
  • Movies (4K-HDR) → 4K HDR

So the files are not in the same library.

I assume there is a function that links everything together in the plex settings but which one?

I’m open for any suggentions.

Many Thx

The reason for this is that both files are the same movie.
You are watching movies, not files.

For Plex, both files share the same “identity” as a movie.

If you have the same movie in 2 different Plex libraries, they appear twice on your home page. Once for every library.

Thank you that makes sense.

Like i’ve said it isn’t a problem just a bit annoying.
