This is a simple problem. Since the last two or three updates when something is played from a DLNA device, Plex Server does not mark the media as played.
When I go back to the list of unplayed items then items that have been watched are still there. I have to manually mark media items as played.
Also, while media is streamed through DLNA no activity is indicated on the Plex Server player or app when before the Plex server indicated that media was being streamed.
I consider this a bug unless there is an option to enable and disable this behaviour on demand.
So it’s not just me. I’m not 100% sure how to report this to Plex tech support and tell them. There are not many support options. Either an FAQ, the community or an option for hilling questions.
I’m having to manually mark episodes and films watched.
Nothing logged/recorded in the DLNA logs.
Also, while media is streamed through DLNA no activity is indicated on the Plex Server when before the Plex server indicated that media was being played.
So. I think it’s safe to say this is a bug. The bug is that the Plex server seems to have no clue whatsoever that something is being streamed via DLNA.
Not sure what platform you run the server on. On Synology, you can uninstall the Plex package and it doesn’t delete your media, database or metadata. You then install a lower version and all is well (assuming there wasn’t a database change - which there hasnt’ been in the last few changes). I believe this is not the case on all platforms or all NAS’ - try searching for downgrading Plex on your specific platform
