I deleted all of my libraries (Movies, TV Shows, etc) and re-added them as I found on forums that was the only way to get the movie posters to show up instead of the image stills from a movie. Well, it worked…up until around 650 movies. Everything after that point is, again, a still from the movie and not the poster metadata. Any subsequent library I add also won’t download the poster. Any ideas how to get this to actually work for every movie in every library?
I have over 3000 movies and about the same ammount of TV shows and all posters show ok apart from on the Windows 8.1 App
Thank you. Must be an issue locally.
Having you checked out the naming guides from the support section? It’s possible the remaining movies just aren’t being matched and thus aren’t getting the posters (do you have other metadata??).
There must have been an issue with the version I was using and an update pushed out. I refreshed the entire library and all the poster metadata was downloaded correctly.
yes but I have to do that several times a day and some of the posters have started to disapear again befor it has finished as with over 3000 movies it takes arroun 5 hours to complete refress all
I have 500+ movies and this problem started showing when I went over 500. It would be good if someone from the plex team would answer that like… “Hey guys, the free plex has a limit of 500 posters, but with a plex pass it is unlimited…” just to give us peace so we stop try to fix an issue that isn’t there…
There is no such limit.
Thank you for your reply Peter, do you have any idea of what could be the cause for Plex to behave this way?
Impossible to say straight up like that. It can be several different things, everything from database corruption, agent cache that needs to be resett, connectivity issues (to the metadata source), naming issues (the movie just isn’t found with the incorrect naming), the server itself being overburden due to adding thousands of movies can cause a lot of CPU stress (especially if one has thumbnail creation enabled) etc etc.
I usually recommend that one add in increments and not their whole movie collection at once to minimize the chance of anything going wrong. Another pro-tip is to use subfolders for each movie, it can help a lot in several ways. Filebot is a nice tool to help with that - https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/191687/plex-naming-schemes-for-filebot/p1
For already incorrectly matched items one can try and Plex Dance a movie to see if it helps - https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/158487/plex-incorrectly-identifying-tv-episodes/p1#entry908454
If it still doesn’t work - create a separate thread that contains all your information as in accordance to this - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703-Reporting-issues-with-Plex-Media-Server (remember to attach all logs, not copy&paste).
