Does Plex Have Issues DVRing/Reocrding and Playing LIve Stations in Parallel?

I have reproduced this several times. That is my PLEX server and Web are on the same laptop connecting to a 3 tuner HD Home Run through a wired connection. If PLEX is recording a show and I try to play a LIVE show in parallel on one of the free tuners, it locks up or screws up the laptops network card such that I have to disable and enable the network card connection to get to the internet. In this case its fixing the laptop accessing the HD Home Run 3 tuner unit which is on my local lan. Of course PLEX messes up the recording that was in progress and worse yet is it will not continue to record the rest of the show byte my tongue like WIN MC did nicely and which Plex should do as only a few minutes are often missing by the time I reset the network conenction alllowing me to watch both parts of the recording.
IS THIS A BUG? that is known and is being fixed?

@theeiman - Tried updating network drivers?
Even if not, all the above would take lots of both CPU and bandwidth, especially CPU intensive if you have commercial removal enabled.
You running that laptop on wireless? Don’t if you’re going to try all that at same time.
HD TV streams already average ~20mbps, imagine that times 2 or 3 depending on what’s recording. I don’t care what speed router claims it’s connected at, attempting to constantly stream 40 or 60mbps is tough in lab conditions. Even worse in home.
As for CPU, I have an HDHR Extend that does half the CPU stream work for me (the h264 encode), but when DVRing and attempting to remove commercials, it brings my system to a crawl. All 4 cores hit max use for a good 10 minutes after a half hour show has ended.

My laptop is an i7 quad core with 8 threads. I have 16gig of memory not nearly used of just 7gig max I see. I am wired connected directly I mentioned at 1 gig speed, the network barely uses 10mb usage for a recorded show. Yes I do commercial removal but if you check the tasks that do that they barely use 10% its always the transcoder that uses a ton of the cpu. And I mentioned it was recording NOT part 2 after recording removing commericals…so recording and I try to play a live station in parallel. It could be just 2 tuners running only and not at 100%cpu usage. My laptop wired connected directly is just 3ft away wire wise. I saw other threads speaking of a similar incident. I thought they fixed it as i commented on that noting the same sypmtoms. Now I see it still happens. So not sure what else I could set to lower as I think its purely still bugs in DVR plex to handle the connections prroperly. Sometimes I might paly the program itself that is being recorded and it happens so 1 tune being used. And the HD HOME RUN I do not think has the feature to transcode hardware wise nor does my graphics card which has independt 2gig of memory as opposed to shared.

All is wired - good start.
Tried updating NIC driver from manufacturer website, and if that doesn’t work, going straight to vendors?
Tried not using commercial removal while DVRing?
Commercial removal isn’t part 2 - it starts mid DVR, and just happens to go past end of show.
I’ve got an I5 Haswell - I have trouble transcoding anything else if I’m using DVR with commercial removal.
Plex really needs to tweak that, allow lower processor usage settings, or schedule for another time, or any number of possibilities. I don’t think that is so much a bug as a “DVR and it’s Commercial removal are new features and Plex still needs to optimize/offer options for scheduling during non-peak times like crazy”
As for loss of NIC use, I think that’s an OS/driver issue for you. Though I’ve seen CPU/machine lag complaints in other threads, I’m not sure I’ve seen total loss of network.
Do you have another machine on the LAN you could ping that machine with? Does it respond if so? Or does the ping respond host unreachable?

I can not reach the web simply by using a browser/tab session. So it seems in fact it is indeed losing or messing up the NIC session completely. When I disable and re enable, it immediately then complets my web attempt to access as well as reach the HDR HOME RUN to play a tuner. I will try the commercial feature off. It always seemed the program is processed in a 2nd step to remove the commericals as I never see the 3 other files in the folder during teh recording phase but see them during the commerical removal phase. If what you say is true not a 2nd step but in some overlap in parallel processing I would expect to see the 4 files in play almost all the time shortly after recording starts or somewhat and NOT after the end of recorded program is done recording at which time I see the commerical removal process showing those 4 files until its done.

So I was live viewing a station I was going to record while away. I had 2 other programs normally to record at the same time. I left. Only 1 program fully recorded for 30 minutes. The other one I added only did its remaining program of 38 minutes though I extended it by 90 minutes. And the 3rd one that was normally to record as it does daily FAILED totally. Nothing was recording when I got home. I expected the 2 programs of 30 minutes to be done and the third one still reocrding. So I tried to live view a random channel NOTHING as if it could not find the HD HOMERUN 3 tuner unit. I checked a web site access, this time it was accessible. The net is programs did not properly record, I did not lose web access through my network card this time and PLEX would not recognize an HD HOME RUN tuner. I had to exit PLEX and restart it. I then immediately tried to use a live channel feed and walla it worked WITH NOT NETWORK card disable/enable. My claim stands PLEX has issues with playing live programs and recording them at the same time. The third 38 minute recording I stated I added 90 minutes too I was watching live. The other two recordings that happens daily were typical as done day to day. So I still say issues with intermixing live viewing with recordings. And no there was no conflcts of any attempt of more than 3 programs to record at the same time and even so PLEX has a pecking order of what to handle even if true which seems to work.
