I am religiously updating Versionj to latest one once it is there, but no matter what version, Plex running on Synology (DSM 6.2.2) crashes all the time - for various reasons.
Downgrading is painful, and older version lacks many new features, And PLEX support offering this solution(downgrade) is not what expected from serious product such as PLEX
Does PLEX developers actually take serious look at the problem, compare why it worked on older version which could be implemented in new one?
When can users expect permanent fix?
Anybody who has update, please share
Thank you
First, I’m curious why you would have waited so long to speak up.
Second, may I see some log files?
Third, since when is uninstalling from Package Center then reinstalling a different version “Painful” ?
First it is not the first time. I did not wait for long time, I just gave up:
It did not yield to no result, so I put my hope on newer releases
Second, in many topics in the forum I see that downgrade is not that straight forward"
I would be greatfull, I fyou can please provide supported by PLEX steps for downgrading. I’ll keep it as a last resort
Re logs: when PLEX crashes, only full reboot of entire Synology brings the service back, does it it keep logs after reboot?
Verbose or standard debug?
I’ll send logs directly to you once I reproduce the issue
If you want to downgrade the version of the software:
Stop PMS in Package Center
Uninstall it in Package Center
Manual Install the desired version.
All of your data (which is in the “Plex” share) is fully preserved.
For clarification:
DSM versions less than 6 are not supported.
PMS 1.15.4.994 is the recommended minimum for security reasons (to protect your media)
To manually retrieve the log files for investigation, Plex -> Library -> Application Support - Plex Media Server -> Right-click “Logs” -> Compress to Logs.zip. Attach the ZIP file.
Hey @ChuckPa
How to respond directly in private with logs?
I enabled debug level just now and waiting for crash, but I have earlier logs as well - not sure if debug level info is there. Let me know if that log could be usefull and I can send it you
It was a while. The plex was working fine, thus I did not bother you.
But today, again crash after crash. around 8:0 - 8:30PM 3/22/2020.
I updated to latest plex version fw days - ver1.18.8.2527
When you have time could you please take a look a t logs?
Hey ChuckPa,
Well, it is conversation we started some time time ago. You told me to uncheck some parameters and send log when it happens
Playing bumblebee in transcode mode it crashed - actually service got stopped. Why - CPU? buffer overflow?
It happened when playing and fast forwarding back and force in transcode mode. I saw CPU shoot up vbery high
Direct play is more stable.
I understand that Synology is not equipped with good hardware trancoding, but before it was slow, bufferring, but never crashed. Now a bit demanding task crashes, stops, becomes irresponsive(only Synology reboot helps sometimes). Is there any bug?
Should I enforce “only direct mode”, if such feature exists?
