Just looking at building a server with more capabilities. The server boards support windows server however is the 2012 version the latest that plex supports?
I used to run plex server on Server 2016 with no issues. I don’t know if plex can utilize Hardware decoding that Intel offers (Quick Sync), you will have to do some research on that.
Works fine for me. Including NVIDIA hardware decoding.
Thanks guys for the confirmation. I’m hoping to use a hp proliant g6 server with two xeon processors. I’ve found transcoding with these processors when I use ddr memory as a virtual disk to store the trascode.
So your GPU is doing decode AND encode? I thought GPU decode wasn’t added to PMS yet. ![]()
I’m also using a Xeon E5 with Server 2016 and a Quadro P2000, but it barely gets used due to (I assume) only being used for encoding.
I don’t have a solution to add, but I would like to throw in there I run Plex on a PowerEdge with dual hexcore sockets, no GPU, and hardware transcoding on “make my cpu hurt” works fantastic and doesn’t even ping out a single core. This is all running inside of an ESXi 6.7 host.
