Having just bought an Echo Show, I would also be very interested in some Plex integration.
Not too fussed about being able to play back movies or TV programs (I would rather do this via other Plex enabled devices to the TV) but it would be great if, whilst playing music from the Plex library, it could show the artist and track details and show the album artwork etc.

But there is no great hope.
It should work with Music today (although we’re unable to control the UI at all so it might not be very pretty). We’ve talked internally about video support but there are currently no plans at this point in time to prioritize that.
I would really like for video to be prioritized. A perfect use of these smart speakers with screens is in the kitchen. We have an Echo Show that we use in the kitchen for recipes, adding items to the shopping list and keeping an eye on the kids with the video intercom. We would love to watch our Plex recordings, movies and live TV right on the Echo Show and eliminate an old under-the-cabinet TV we have. I have Plex working with a hack on the Echo Show going through a web browser link in the ToS…but unfortunately it times out after a couple minutes of no touch activity and returns to the home screen.

I wonder what the size of the Echo Show/Spot owner base is versus Oculus Go/Gear VM? (Serious question… I have both, but I’d much prefer to watch on an Echo device in bed.)

I think this would be a nifty feature and I believe Amazon has an API for this, just a matter of connecting the dots I bet.
I agree. Adding Plex functionality to the Echo Show would dramatically improve the utility of both products. This should be a priority, given that the Echo line (including the Spot and Show) are quickly becoming ubiquitous fixtures in homes.

Having Plex on Echo Show would be awesome! I have mine in the kitchen as I believe most people do but since Youtube was removed I haven’t really had much use for it other than my flash briefing, weather, and the trivia that comes up on it daily. If I have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen there really is nothing much I can watch on it. Plex would give me the ability to play my video library.

Amazon should give us the power, not Plex. Amazon should allow for a Plex-compatible renderer or provide one itself. Then we’d be in business.

We have no current plans to support video on Echo devices. We built a proof-of-concept and it didn’t work well.
That’s disappointing but I do appreciate your response. Plex is awesome. Thanks for all the hard work you folks do!

We also have an echo show in our kitchen, which we use for recipes, announcements (“Dinner’s ready!”), answering the doorbell, etc. We also use it for entertainment while doing the dishes, but are currently limited to music and Amazon prime video. Pretty lame.
If Plex were to build a full client on the show, this would greatly improve the utility of both products. Not only would we get our recorded movies and television shows, but we could stream live TV via Plex.
Count me as another long-time customer strongly endorsing prioritizing the development of a fully-function app/skill for the Echo Show.

Just adding another “Me too” for Plex on the Echo Show 2nd gen. It’s now a 10" screen and makes perfect sense for Plex IMO.

Now that you can use Firefox, I have been able to play video on my Echo Show that way. Give it a shot!
