I’ve been trying to figure out why some of my tracks only come up with a SHARE IMAGE option in Plexamp but others will come up with SHARE … (allowing SHARE LINK option).
And I think it must be related to their MATCH status?
Is there a future plan to allow unmatched things to be shared? Probably about half my collection of not-in-streaming-service slightly leftfield music is unmatched (and unmatchable!)
You are correct in your assumption. I recently asked this same exact query to Elan a little over a week ago:
Simply, all music must be identifiable using the (NEW) Plex Music agents and MATCHED in order to take advantage of the sharing mechanism, via share url OR the share image.
To reiterate, UNMATCHED music (albums, singles, etc.) that is more or less bootleg, white label, custom put together per your own method, will NOT be able to use the share url nor the share image feature.
it’s shouldn’t matter for the share image, as far as i know. it matters for the share link because it has to be able to render a web page when the recipient doesn’t have access.
If there was an option for Discogs API matching then probably 95% of my collection would be matched!
Another option might be an easy ‘submit to Musicbrainz’ choice - to allow Plex Music users to upload releases that aren’t in Musicbrainz to Muiscbrainz.
