I have following settings of my servers
Update my library automatically
Your library will be updated automatically when changes to library folders are detected.
Run a partial scan when changes are detected
When changes to library folders are detected, only scan the folder that changed.
The first server (mediaserver) has it’s storage locally attached,
but plex music library is defined as a UNC path to a share (on the same machine)
\mediaserver\media\muziek\collectie
The second server (kastsmurf) has the same definition of it’s library
\mediaserver\media\muziek\collectie, pointing to the same share on mediaserver
I notice that when I add some music to my music folder:
on mediaserver it is immediately added to my library
on kastsmurf, I need to do a manual scan before it appears on the library
The only difference I can see is that on mediaserver, the (share)folder is locally attached.
So my question here is: does the setting “run a partial scan” works when files are stored on a NAS?
Typically, the most desirable way to keep your Libraries updated is using the Update my library automatically feature. This uses capabilities of the operating system to detect when content has changed and then initiate a Library update.
Note: In most cases, this should work for content on local filesystems. It will generally not work for network shares mounted via SMB, NFS, AFP, or similar.
If you have this option enabled and Library updates don’t happen automatically (you should wait 60 seconds after all activity on the drive finishes), automatic updates may not be supported on your operating system/filesystem and you may wish to use periodic updates instead.
It will generally not work for network shares mounted via SMB, NFS, AFP, or similar.
Are there cases that it will work?
I want to buy a new NAS, and are there specs that I have to take in account?
My problem is
“Update my library automatically” does not work for shares right now
library is too large for small" library update interval"
even with “Run a partial scan when changes are detected”, plex starts a full scan when a change is detected in a image library, and 88436 images take a while to process
So right now, if I add some music, I need to wait for the next crawl to have music displayed, or start a manual scan (and also wait some time, because large music library)
