Does the new Roku Streambar supports the Plex App?

I plan to buy the new Roku Streambar in the next few weeks, but before my purchase, I would like to know if the Plex app will run on it, and what features are supported while running the Plex app on it (HDR, Dolby Vision, Atmos, etc.)

Thank you

At this time, I would not go for buying a Roku Streaming Bar. You should invest in a Soundbar that will do what you’d like from your setup. Look into Vizio and their M-Series as well as even their Elevate soundbar which supports Dolby Vision, HDR, Dolby Atmos, and DTS X.

Plex: Yes.
HDR10: Yes.

No Dolby Vision. I sincerely doubt that Atmos is supported.

It should support Plex just fine, it’s essentially just a Roku device inside a soundbar. So it should handle DD+ and DTS, along with HEVC up to 10-bit, but I can’t be 100% sure yet. I’m looking at one for a bedroom. Stuff like DTS-HD and TrueHD/Atmos will be transcoded.

Fun tidbit: The new Streambar is technically wifi-only, but supports 100mbps ethernet with a USB adapter. Roku provided a few model options here:

I’m curious (doubtful, actually) about any native DTS support, period. I bet it isn’t included, to avoid decoder license fees.

But I agree that Plex will transcode just fine.

I think these look like a great product, considering the price point and simplicity.

Absolutely. For a bedroom TV, it’s almost a no-brainer. Updated audio compared to the TV, plus a Roku interface, and you can mount to the TV if desired. I’d be surprised if they took out DTS support, simply because I suspect they essentially just stuffed existing hardware inside the speaker. But it’s a good point that they could save a few bucks. I guess we’ll find out!

I’m watching BF sales for one.

Heads up for anyone following this thread and interested in the Streambar, it’s on sale this week.

Hi,
Roku streambar is connected via standard HDMI cable and an optical cable to a 2011 Samsung PN51D7000 TV. These are the only two devices in play and the only two devices connected to each other. No cable box receiver etc.

Audio is not syncing well on plex while playing .mkv files off my computer.
The other connected apps, Netflix, TouTubeTV, Hulu all work fine.

Look forward to your feedback and suggestions.

Thank you,

Alex

This may be related to this report by some other people about audio problems on the current Roku firmware, but I’m not sure. Take a look:
