It runs great using Rosetta on my M1 Mac mini. I assume eventually they’ll release a universal binary with native support for the M1, but I don’t notice any difference running it through Rosetta for now.
Good to know. Thanks! Did you get the base model with 8GB or go to the 16GB model.
Thanks!
The most important spec to be calculated is the size of SSD, your metadata file can be very large if using Video previews. I have seen mentions of up to a TB on large libraries with previews. Otherwise a 256 or 512Gb would be suffice if using external storage.
Can you assign these files to another drive?
Well I believe it can be done with a symbolic link, not sure it will work with Big Sur
I just bought a new Macbook Air and, when I click on the Plex Media Server application, it appears for a second in the top toolbar and then disappears. I’ve just installed the latest version of it and deleted the older one I had thinking that might have been the issue, but not luck. Can anyone offer any advice??? Thanks.
I found this post that I will try and see if it works with BigSur. Thanks.
So far so good it is working. Been running about a day.
I would assume so, it would be in there best interest
Server version 1.21.0 is Intel 64 architecture only, FYI.
So I just purchased the new Mac mini with the M1 chip, man this thing is x10 times faster than my previous Mac mini. My only issue is that Plex media server is causing issues opening up. I have attached the media server log for any assistance anyone can provide. Note: the Plex media server is the only app (besides stock apps) on the new Mac mini(File removed)
I’ve the same issue
Yup, what’s the plan ?
Plex ! your loyal paying subscribers want to know.
M1 native support.
Same deal here. Just fired up my new mac mini M1 and Plex won’t launch. Gonna need a fix for this asap.
Multiple posters have indicated success with Plex Media Server on Big Sur on M1, including accelerated transcoding.
Do you have a problem with Plex Media Server launching? Can you share what it is doing, or any error messages you are getting?
If you are getting this message when launching the old Plex Media Player, it’s because Plex hasn’t released a new version with a new Apple certificate in a while.
You can still open it, it just takes an extra step the first time. Instructions:
For me, it just doesn’t launch, period. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled, to no avail. When I first tried to run it, I got a message saying I’d need to install Rosetta. I did that, then it just wouldn’t launch.
Yep, did that, still no go.
