Dolby Vision/HDR not working? Is your server only transcoding media?

Player Version#:5.1.2

I recently started having issues where all of my media files (1080p and 4k) were all transcoding through the plex app on my LG CX TV even though I was local and not remote. They were specifically transcoding to H.264 and no longer would play DV files because of the standard “color pallet not support error” nor would it play anything in HDR.

After lots of trial and error, searching on these forums, and changing settings on the server and player side…turns out the fix was just un-installing the plex app on WebOS then re-installing.

This post is mostly as a PSA as I still don’t know why it suddenly wanted to transcode “All the things!” but this ended up being the fix. All files are now playing directly instead of transcoding, and DV as well as HDR all work fine.

Strange that, because as I understand it the Plex App on WebOS is actually just a “loader” and when you run it then downloads the full app from Plex.

All working OK on my LG C1 last time I checked though.
