I have Plex on a firetick 4K, up to date for stick and app to an LG G4
LG G4 app again WebOS and app upto date

The Firestick app when forced to DOVI7 jsut gives a black screen, the WebOS app just plays as HDR and I dont know how or if Dolby can be forced

Media info shows Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, Profile 7.6, dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU, no metadata compression, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version HDR10+ Profile B, HDR10+ Profile B compatible

The G4 does not support HDR+ just HDR, HLG and DV

How do I get this working as I definately prefer DV to HDR

G4 has enough brightness there should be little need or difference for DV. With that TV, DV is basically obsolete.

The only thing with dv profile7 is a bluray disc and you aren’t using a bluray player. Its not a streaming format.

It’s not streamed it’s ripped, Lg would disagree with DV being obsolete and there is a fair amount of difference between HDR and DV, much less between HDR+ and DV but the G4 doesn’t support HDR+

Enough so that it look better on the 4 year old sony

Because a 4 year old sony likely doesnt have the brightness to render all the full range, and DV is a bandaid product for milqtoast displays…. Which your G4 is not.

LG has a pattern of pushing the DV bandaid because their historically lowpar, woled with low brightness needed all the help they could get. And they still put some on the market.

Its a shame they abuse their customers with the lack of HDR10+. Its a more open easily accessible format available to all, hisense, samsung, sony, all integrate for their customers. Only LG is petty and anticonsumer.
