Double movies on "continue watching" home page

Server Version#: ALL
Player Version#: ALL

I have two libraries, one for my 1080p content and another for my 4K content. Now I do have some content that have 1080p and 4K versions.

Why is it that when I play something in my 4K library and stop half way through, the next time I open player (AppleTV, Android TV, Windows, etc) both the 4K and 1080p versions show on the home page “continue watching” section?

this happens when you use the same agent for both libraries.

plex assigns the same GUID based on the agent matching. All videos with the same guid are considered the same for ratings/play state/etc.

the only way to prevent it, is to change one of the libraries to a different agent. (ie from plex movies to tmdb or whatever).

changing the agent only affects new content, so you would also need to refresh metadata or fix match (I can’t remember which) on any existing content.

You can also:
Fix Match on one of them - then change to ‘the other Agent’.

Making an entire Library Plex Movie for example - would be complete madness (unless they’re all going to be Doubles in that library), but changing one item would be ‘the work-around’ for a ‘Double Trouble’ Situation…

… and in a pinch - you can use Personal Media Agent as another one (with a Hand Edit) if you happen to have Triples.

After that - you’re fresh out of Agents…

You might also consider using labels to restrict 4k, instead of separate libraries.

see @ [INFO] Plex, 4k, transcoding, and you - aka the rules of 4k

if you don’t want to create a separate library, you can use LABELS to restrict your users from seeing 4k content:

… if he hangs around here long enough we’ll start fixing things that ain’t broke…

I got it the way I like it, using different agents for the metadata.
