Android "Download" is still broken

Server Version#: 1.40.3.8555
Player Version#: 10.16.1.842

Please fix the Android application.

Download works fine on iOS. It is totally non-functional on Android. I have tried two different Android devices and it does not work on either.

Here is a link to one of the many closed and not resolved threads with the same issue.

Do downloads just never start on Android? What exactly happens?

@morganj

That is exactly it. The download never starts.

“An error has occurred, please try again later.”

If you can tell me where the error logs are on Android, I am willing to retrieve them and upload them for you and the team to look at.

I have both a Galaxy S10+ and a Galaxy S23. Both are running the current version of Samsung’s ROM. OneUI(?)

Ok seems like they are being blocked for some reason. Could you share both your Android Logs as well as your PMS logs. for the mobile logs please follow the first section under “emailing the logs” as it includes a few extra logs for downloads that are not included if you follow the “networking logging” route.

Out of interest sake, what is your home network like are you using any advanced firewalls or pi-hole? My downloads have been blocked before due to my old firewall.

Here are the logs from the Galaxy S23 and from my server (Windows)
plex-log-dave562.zip (620.8 KB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2024-07-06_16-07-06.zip (6.7 MB)

The network is totally flat. There are not any devices that would be getting in the way of L2 or L3 traffic.

My iPad on the same network can download just fine.

I checked the Windows firewall just in case.

The 4 different Plex executables are allowed.

Looking at the logs you provided for your S23 there are 4 episodes of Tokyo Vice that downloaded at around 3.2GB in late February this year and should still be there, are you not able to see these downloads if you navigate to downloads in the app?

I deleted those episodes after I watched them.

Does the log track deletions? Does it show that I deleted them?

Nothing has changed with my network topology since I successfully downloaded those shows to my device in February.

I have updated Plex when updates are available.

And I have updated Android as well.

Either a Plex upgrade broke the functionality, an Android update broke the functionality, or a combination of both.

I’m guessing Android. Or the Plex Android client. I say that because I can download to the iPad just fine.

It says the episodes are still there and yes it tracks deletions unless it was deleted outside of the app. If you did delete them then yes seems like downloads on your app might be stuck in a broken state. Could you try clearing the data of the app and sign back in again and attempt to download again? Uninstalling the app does not always clear the data on Android.

It looks like the shows are still there. I did not delete them.

How do I clear the data?

Find the app on your S23 long press on the icon then click the info icon in the top right. Scroll down and select “storage” then clear data is in the bottom left.

Thank you SO MUCH!

This fixed it.

To clarify, using the “Clear Data” (not Clear Cache) under the Storage option fixed it.

After doing clear data, I was prompted to log into Plex. I logged in with my Plex.tv account (not Google, Facebook, etc.)

When I went to Download, it took me to the Storage widget where it asks for permission, allows me to set the size of the cache, etc.

Once I clicked OK there, the content downloaded successfully.

I tried it on both the S23 and S10+ . Both are now working.

Great news. I am glad it worked. I am guessing it got stuck in a broken state. Out of interest sake have you ever reinstalled an older version of the app after updating it?
