The new downloads functionality seems to be very slow. Any idea why? While sync had a lot of weird problems, it seemed to transcode and download faster, or at least more consistently.

On iOS 15.1.1, “Downloads” is acting out for me, also. I’ve gone back to downloading/playing my vids using nPlayer+.
I’m not convinced that Downloads works properly when in the background. I have it enabled in Background Tasks. If I set an unwatched season to “Download next 3 unwatched,” but don’t watch any of the episodes, it seems that the little yellow wheel spins for way longer than it should, as if it were only working when the app is in the foreground.
This has been my experience as well. Additionally, it doesn’t seem to resume downloads very well. If it hits any kind of an issue (or goes to the background) it seems to want to restart the download from the beginning. So far my experience with the new Downloads hasn’t been great. It would help to know how fast it is going, an estimated time remaining, and for it to support resuming a download.
